MPX Intercooler install

Post by yellowpatrol » Thu Feb 05, 2009 2:32 pm

To anyone who has done this before, I have heard that there is a modified crash bar that you can use so that you don't have to go without one. Does anyone know about this? Also, does it fit right in place with the stock hoses and stuff?

That one looks nice and sturdy but damn $200. Has anyone attempted modding the stock one? It looks like it might be possible, but probably no where near as tight as the CTI.

The bad thing about modifying the stock one is you lose structural integrity when you start cutting. It is made to be 'boxed' in so if you, for instance, cut out the bottom half you've made it much less sturdy.

Do you already have the front mount? If not, maybe think about a direct fit. Though I remember a past thread on intercoolers you made.

Probably won't hurt anything. There are a ton of SRT-4's with BFMIC's and they run fine.

If it crashes when that enginge has reached it's full potential, the crash bar is of no consequence. But at speeds under 40mph it would prolly help.
I would fab one myself from chromemoly, but that's just me.
If the car is used strictly 1320, then the chances of a collision are far less. I'd bet the percentage of crashes at a drag strip are lower than on the streets of the public. I am by no means implying that they don't happen.
