Post by AlexBSXT03 » Sat Feb 07, 2009 1:15 pm

so i live in michigan and its been in the negatives for like a month straight and my heater is not working right. it doesn't heat up until i get the car goin at least like 30 mph, and if i turn it up any more than past the second notch, it goes cold on me. does anyone know wat the problem is?

Does the temp gauge maintain it's position, once it warms up? If it drops back down to near cold, then it is the t'stat like mentioned above. If it holds within a needle width or two at 3/8 to 1/2 gauge, then the t'stat is prolly ok. There may be a blockage in a heater tube/hose/core causing the air to get cold with not enough coolant flowing across the core to heat the increased air flow. Or you may just be low on coolant.

Have you checked your coolant level? If its low you might have a leak. I would take it in for a flush and fill and see if theres any leaks.

Do you hear any sort of fan running when you turn it on?

hopefully just a fan or thermostat. try changing out the cheaper stuff first to see if that works.

There are machines that flush or the old fashioned running water through the system with a hose.
