I honestly do not see this happening.. I applaud the originality, but the sheer magnitude of a project like this is comparable to an amateur climbing Mount Everest.
I think the Motor is too big to fit into the Neon engine bay, now factor in the RWD transmission, a decent Rear End, Custom Drive Shaft, custom Rear Suspension, all the cutting and fabricating that is going to be needed to turn a Cheap FWD chassis into something that can accept a RWD platform.
Now factor in that everything from the SRT-6 is German and your Neon is very much American/Mexican/Canadian.
Sorry bud, no disrespect. I think you're in over your head and you should spend your money elsewhere.

Everyone knows that for breasts to be "perfect" they need to be within reach.
It has been said before, you're going to be fabricating a lot of stuff...
If you're good at fabrication and don't mind it, try to keep the FWD platform. It might be easier in the long run. You'll definitely have to fabricate something so it mounts to whatever transmission you use. I would suggest a crossfire transmission, but then you have to fabricate more for the rear end... get a first gen and use a MTX if you're serious... they're lighter weight, handle better (IMO), and parts are cheaper for them.
you also need the wiring harness and PCM from the srt-6 or this won't be happening! there are too many sensors for that part to be custom! You may need the key too since it might have SKIM installed... not sure on that last one though...
WHY HASN'T ANYONE SUGGESTED THAT HE SELL THE SRT-6 ENGINE?! Check ebay right now. I'll wait...
....
....they're selling for around $7,000! factor in that you have stage 2 internals (i think you said)? you could sell it for around $8 grand or more who knows.

First off do a 1gn its lighter, cheaper, and, the trunk opening is bigger(this matters later)
Do a few things:
Dont listen to any "keep it FWD" is way too much weight and power to ask the front wheels to do everything
Sell the SRT-6 trans
Use the proceeds to buy a Porsche G50 transaxle:
http://www.kitcentral.com/index.php?nam ... highlight=
You may have guessed by now that Im telling you to put the engine where the backseat/front of the trunk used to be I have a few reasons for this:
1.) Dynamically it will be a better car if you do it right
2.) It will be cheaper
3.) You dont have to cut as much of the neon up
4.) Less sheet metal work which I personally hate
5.) The SRT-6 engine wont fit in the front of the neon or at least not well. Its quite large and it mounts to the sub-frame in a very un-neon-y way.
Okay so start on your rear subframe by bending and welding your cage in. Your rear subframe is going to connect to the bulkhead that you have on the back of the cage, where the rear struts used to go, and, to the "frame" rails. There is no shame in overbuilding this part as it holds most of your hard work and you will have more than enough power to move it.
The next step is to find a dealership that has an elise/exige and will allow you to look at the rear suspension on a lift. Measure and research all you can. Since you are building all your pick-up points you can put stuff wherever you want so why not build for perfect geometry.
Buy this book and memorize it:
http://www.amazon.com/Chassis-Engineeri ... 42-9358001
Okay your sub-frame and suspension are done now its time for the engine and trans. You will need an adapter plate for the G50 thankfully it is like the standard trans for doing stuff like this so a lot of companies make them, just measure you bell housing pattern and call whoever you want. Any decent machine shop could do one as well. Make your motor mounts get the engine to sit a low down and as close to the center of the car as you can. If it works like it is in my head the front of the engine should sit right about at the rear seat back. Lastly make a fire wall to replace your rear seat, you will want to make it and the parcel shelf removable to make fixing it easier.
Wiring: I have no clever solution to this one
Axles will have to be made a small expense at this point
You can run the radiator on the rear window rally car style or run pipes to the front, there really is no wrong way to do it.
Keep in mind this is a huge project no matter how you decide to do it. Read this to give you an idea of how far in over your head you are:

For the wiring, couldn't you use a majority of the SRT6's wire harnesses and adapt to components?
* use the SRT6 gauge cluster and I (though I'm not all that skilled) can't see why other things can not be easily adapted.

Frank, and just about everyone else putting logic into someones dreams. I <3 you.
OP. Don't do it. you wont ever finish. If you prove me wrong, then hey, grats. I'll send you a grand. Otherwise, there's no way in hell this will ever finish.
The only people that do crazy engine swaps, are those that know WTF they're doing and don't have to ask people on a message board on how to do it.
Hell, Chris does some crazy shit to his neon, and I'd still be skeptical on if it ever finished... But he's the most likely one to ever do it on this board

Really man, it's not going to be as easy as you think. I would look into doing boneyard's idea of putting it into the back of a 1gn first. It's still not going to be easy, but it would be a little easier. Maybe just put a whole SRT-4 drivetrain into the back, that would be the easiest.

So many neons so little time.

That would be cool. A Rear Engine RWD SRT-4 powered Neon. Or would it be Mid Engine?

The SRT stuff would be down right easy, you can do mostly the same thing as that Integra I posed, along my junkyard measurements everything about lines up.

so i took the 1st gen to college to day and had a serious look into the project. i Have come up to the decision that its going into the front of the 1st gen but be rear wheel drive and were going to try and save the trani and use it. i figure if I'm going to do this i'll use his trani so i don't have to do any rebuilds with stage internals in it. I also started to look into getting a stage 3 super charger. once we pull the 1st gen apart sunday i'll have a better gauge on what its going look like and stuff. I also took a look at motor mounting and had gotten couple ideas of my grandfather. but he even said it will be a two to three year project cause I only got weekends to work.

Swap
i would definetly say do it. dont listen to the people saying otherwise. I think it is an awesome idea. Just put you mind to it.
so pics are up on my flker account and for some reason won't up load to photobucket.
so far this sunday all we got done was the tearing apart of the first gen engine bay and friday after worker were going to continue to strip out the rest of the car. what ever parts I can salvage off the first gen i'm probable going to sell but i do want to put the DOHC head on my neon.

ok i'm in over my head here and need adive cause i got to make two new motor mounts and a trani. whats a good strong light weight material and i was thinking of making my own poly fills for the motor any ideas.
In chem lab we learned how to make the poly mounts inserts but they were not that strong but i'm sure i can make a stronger one unless andone has a good idea about this before i blow my eye brows off. lol
