How to repair wheels

Post by TheRandom1 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:06 am

Josh (opi) gave me this link, and it's VERY informative. I'll be trying this method on my wheels once it gets consistently warmer (hopefully very soon!)

Nice link. I might need to fix my bronzes because of stupid walmart and their tire-mounting.

Oh yeah, it looks damn easy actually... I'll be picking this stuff up and testing this method out very soon I hope!

I don't think it will work on polished lips though...

You'd have to have the wheel chromed or something afterwards, or you won't be able to shine that spot, good point.

I'm going to have to give this a shot on some spare R/T silverstones I bought a few years back for cheap.

so can anyone vouch for the idea of using that putty to fix the rim like that. i mean when i get to repainting my rims i wanna fix mine just like shown in the link cause mine looks exactly like that. but to me it seems like the putty wouldnt hold up cause of the rim getting hot but idk.

Getting hot? Have you never touched your wheels before? They get warm, but not really hot... Certainly not hot enough to "melt" putty off or anything! It should be fine.

I'm planning on starting on mine in the next few weeks so I can put them on when springtime gets here, so I'll let you know.

But would plating bond to that spot? Maybe if you mixed enough metal into the putty, so it will conduct electrictiy, but that in it's self is iffy.

They do have a metallic filler, but I don't recall what it's called. I saw it on musclecar on Spike a while back.

If you're worried about plating you could try that?
