The 512's are no longer being made, so the newest tire you could buy are going to be a few years old.

Wow there are some really crappy all season selections for a reasonable price in that size.

Those are alright. I'd recommend finding some Yokohama AVID series tires if you can. Most are discontinued but they're excellent tires for year around driving.

The 512 are still being made. Discount Tire is the only distributor of them now. That and one other Falken tire. My store alone has a few in stock. I say order them off of the Direct website or go into a local Discount Tire Store and print off the price.

The 512 really aren't that special. The AVID series from Yokohama is absolutely awesome

not realy interested in driving these tires in the winter,i have winter tires on my 15s,i just want a cheaper okay tire to run in the summer/fall. not into performance that much other than running the twisties in the mountains.

Yeah the 512 isnt really a Performance tire. I mean they do the job for the price but tires is one of thoes get what you pay for things. But they should do what you want nicely.

Nitto Neo Gen! They have great reviews. That's what I wanna go with when I get some wheels. I'm pissed though, because I think the Nexo wheels I wanted to get have been discontinued and I can't find another similar wheel for a decent price! :banghead:

^ ^ heard good things about the Neo Gens.

I have Kumho Ecsta AST's (a little more expensive?) on my car, they are pretty good, they hold pretty well with the boost. And they are decent in the Idaho snow, it's better to go with studs for winter though lol

If you don't need winter tires don't get all seasons. Get a decent summer/dry weather tire. Somewhere around a 200 treadwear rating should be a good balance between price, stickiness, and tire life.

actually the 512 is a nice all around summer tire. You can use it on the track but it will wear quickly on the track. It is a very grippy tire but its not good at all in the snow!

I put Kumho ASX's on my silverstones, and they seem pretty good. Get around in snow OK. Would like some more grip in 1st though, they spin easy.

How good someone thinks a tire is, is relative to what other tires they've driven on.

for what you want todo with your car those tires would be perfect!!!!!!

I had em for 2 summers myself and they were great in the rain/dry

I had them at NHIS i wish I had my suspension tuned better then and had wider tires but the 512s weren't horrible for NHIS.

I think the tires we are discussing in this thread are garbage.. But I want the best performance out of a tire possible because I believe the tires are the most important thing on a car.

I'd spend the extra cash and pick up a set of Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 StarSpec or Kumho MX, or Bridgestone RE01Rs...

The RE01Rs are about 50% regular prizes at tirerack right now.

I will only drive on Extreme Performance or R-Compound Tires. But again. Tire Opinions are all relative.

well no worries now I have 215s which are no where near as small.

That was my first "racing" event and I had lots to learn,

If I did that now you would see zero body roll and we wouldnt' be sloshing around inside cuz the viper seats hold you much snugger through the corners.

But back to the topic, the tires are worth the bargin and if I didn't plan on doing more track days id get them for a summer tire

I've been running Falken 323's on my 98 for a year. 2.17 60' is my best so far, not sure how cornering will do since I hardly do that. I ran falken 512, and 452's on my 05, they're decent for a driving around tire.

Mox, I can't afford to drive around on R-compounds! If I'm spending $200 plus on a set of tires, I need to get miles out of them.

For reference, whats the largest size tire I could put on my silverstones? right now i've got 205 55 16's. Pretty sure they are 55s, if not they are 50s

$200 on a set? :) Try $200 a tire.

I've about to order my 4th set of tires for my MS3 and I've had the car 11 months.

KUMHO'S

Hey I'm just gonna throw out my 2 cents worth here. I used to run Kumho Ecsta Supra 711's and 712's and they were all awesome I only had a couple issues both being soft Side Walls and pot holes were hell on them. Now for my opinion on a good cheap, summer, fall, spring tire since you live ina wet climate of oregon I would go with a set of Kumho Ecsta AST's I run a pair of them in the rear of my SRT and the factory KDW's up front they last a good long time with care, also they are cheap. I can pick up a brand new set of tires for $260 plus tax and even with shipping to you it wouldnt cost more than $350 I believe. Let me know if ya want some cuz im headin to the tire shop either this weekend or next to get my own. Good luck on the tire search also. Thanks, Mitchell
