Make stock R/T muffler quiet? Just got pulled over by cops..

Post by Knuckles » Sat Feb 28, 2009 12:06 pm

So I got pulled over because my neon is too loud.

Discussion:
Me:So what was the reason you pulled me over?
Cop:because your Neon's muffler is waay to loud
Me:What are you talking about? It's a stock muffler..
Cop:Stock? I know for a fact Neon's don't come with mufflers like that..
Me:I just got this car recently.. Nothing has been modified.. it's stock.. Its a Neon R/T its a high performance Neon..
Cop:That may be how you bought it from the dealer but you don't know who was the owner before and what muffler they installed.
Me:Oook.. I know my cars.. Have you seen an SRT-4?

So pretty much he just wanted to pull over a mexican with a nice car because I was driving through a ghetto neighborhood.. He was going to give me a fix it ticket but then It got to the point where he kept looking at the car and wasnt even sure anymore..
I still got a ticket for another thing. :cussing:

This sucks though.. I don't want to get pulled over constantly for having a sweet sounding car.

My dad suggested to take off the muffler.
But.. come on.. people pay alot for those mufflers. I'm supposed to upgrade my car not downgrade..

Soo Is there a way to just make it quieter without having to get rid of it?

Stupid California Cops..

The R/T muffler's not even very loud. At least not on my car. You should probably take it to court. What was the ticket for?

The muffler should have a part number on it, or something to identify it as an OEM Mopar Part.

then get something from the dealer saying it was an OEM part and if you get pulled over say can i show you the PN?

If it is the stock muffler they cant say anything. Take it to a dodge dealer and have them write out a paper saying it is, if you got a ticket for it. So, you can use that as proof to fight it.

My nephew got pulled over for the same reasons in his 1gn, with the DOHC muffler. It is quieter than the R/T. They will find any excuse to pull you over just to see what else they can nab you for. Especially if it is late at night. I doubt it is because you are a mexican/american. It it because you are young. I went through the same shit when I was young. Some cops just want you to know who's boss. I got pulled over for making a u turn at my house. It isn't a limited access hwy, and the turn arounds are there for the residents that live there. It is a rural 4 lane hwy, there are no signs posted restricting U turns/Limited Access. They just need a bogus excuse to check you out. I got a "Warning", because he knew he would have gotten ripped by the judge.

With the economy in the crapper right now, it going to get worse. Funds are funds. Less ppl working = less tax revenue. They are going to make up for it by any legal means necessary. What they would let slide in good times, they will fine you for now.

Other than changing the muffler the only option is to cut the midpipe, and instal a glasspak type muffler in. But that means hacking a good midpippe. If you go that route, get a cheap replacement mid pipe and use that. Keep the OEM one to return it to stock later. But it prolly won't make a difference. They will just use another excuse. The other favorite one is "You went left of center" Which in Ohio carries a two point penalty. I have got warnings for that one too. I used to work 2nd shift and left work at midnight. At least once a month on a Friday or Saturday night I would get pulled over, by the same department. :tardbang:

Just be polite and show them you are a decent, responsible young adult, and eventually they will leave you alone. Sometimes you get a slow learner.

What did the officer end up writing you a ticket for?

If your car really is stock, don't pay money to downgrade it. That's an open / shut case. Take pics of what you have on the car, go to the dealer and get a letter stating your car is what you say it is. Done.

ummmmm.....they will still find ways to pull you over and find out you have no license. So, instead of putting money into the car, put it aside to get a license?

With a $1000 ticket you could easily have paid for both insurance and the license.

You got pulled over because you're a 19 year old kid with dual exhaust, the fact you're hispanic was just a plus for them. Don't drive illegally or under the influence and you won't really have to worry about it.

They look for certain things like driving with 1 arm on top of the steering wheel, having the windows down, loud music or bass, and accelerating quickly. It sounds stupid, but I stopped those things and haven't been pulled over in 6 years. Get some tint if you don't have it already, you'll be less visible and less suspect.

So, you suggest taking a failure to show a license ticket to court. What is that going to do?

Judge: Do you have a license?
Person: No, Sir
Judge: Guilty

End of court

That's only if they don't laugh you out of the courtroom first. I would get a license if I were you, if you keep getting caught you will be a habitual offender and the penalties increase.

If you don't have a license and your driving, I'm surprised you weren't arrested on the spot.

well considering all the illegals in California that drive without a license and insurance, he had good reason to pull you over. I applaud the Cop.

Sorry, I thought it was funny because of how much I hated California and the government playing to the illegal population. Racial Profiling is bad.

Seriously dude. Don't bitch about getting a ticket when you broke the Law. If I was the cop and I found out you didn't have a license I would of towed the car and had you arrested. Learn from your actions and move on. If you don't have insurance I hope you get busted for that too.

Or is it just Mexican? I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. If he is not a legal resident I doubt he can get a valid licence. The illegals here use other legal residents to get plates/insurance. They drive around with expired/fake Mexican drivers licences. The cops pull them over all the time and do nothing. Mainly because they don't want the hassle of getting their true identity, etc.

So are you legal with a suspended, or illegal with none? Not that it really matters, there isn't much that can be proved here.
Either way, man up and be a responsible person.
I have to give you credit for being honst enough to say what the other ticket was for. I wouldn't have even mentioned it.

This isn't directed at the OP unless it applies:
I really don't even believe in the hyphenated shit either (ethnicity/american) If you were born here you're an american citizen. If you want to go through the legal process or serve our country to become a citizen, you're an an american. If you don't like being called american there's nothing keeping you here.
That is the true meaning os being american, it doesn't matter where your ancestors/you came from we are all one people. It's a shame that is getting lost in the "me generation" United we stand, Divided we fall. It is that simple.

I would look for this in the off topic section soon, as there are few posts relating to the original question.

Also, I believe it's hispanic or latino and not mexican, since we're splitting hairs. I have many hispanic friends that never got a license because their parents never got one. Ignorance of the law isn't a defense, even judge judy will tell you that.
