My door doesn't shut completely

Post by Stryker » Sun Mar 01, 2009 8:08 pm

I don't have any pics of the problem right now because it has been raining and snowing all day but here is what I am having a problem with.

The drivers side door doesn't seal completely around the top of the door. I can't find any signs of where the door was hit or bent in any way. I am leaning towards the latch not grasping the whole way because it is the back side of the door (where the front door meets the back door) the whole way down the door.

Just curious if anybody else has had this problem.

Is the weatherstripping okay? It could need a striker adjustment but it sounds like the door is twisted....

Did anything hit the door? How about a pic?

The weather stripping looks fine to me and I can't see any signs of the door being hit anywhere. I will post a pic as soon as I get home tomorrow from work. Also, if it helps, I can push in on the door to create a good seal and everything lines up. That is the only reason that I didn't think that the door had been hit or bent.

Hmmm, sounds like the door is pulled out. Car thieves seem to like to pull these style doors out at the top to reach in and unlock the door. My sisters neon was actually bought as a stolen recovery and her door was bent out like this as well.

Well some tow truck drivers will do that as well when you lock your keys in the car. Have you tried to bend it back in some?

Safe to say that you'll need to twist the door back into shape to get it to seal right.

Can you tell if the latch is clicking once or twice? If it is only once, then it is not latching all the way. IDK if the dome light will go off if it only clicks in on the first one tho.

I don't know about the clicking but if I am awake enough to remember in the morning I will check it out. The more I look at the door the more it does look like it might only be the top right corner (if you are looking at the outside of the door) that is not sealing. It does look like somebody tried to pull it out from the top. I don't know if anybody has tried but is it a big pain in the butt to bend it back into shape? My biggest worry would be that I break the glass. Sorry that I haven't got a pic yet but with the snow storm and my son going to the doctor I haven't had time to even sit down for a second.

If you are worried about the glass, roll the window down. Tweak it till it looks right/seals, then roll the window back up.

Slam it Harder.

I have to do that with one of my file cabinets at work. I just keep slamming it until it closes. Works like a charm.

Hammer? Yeah, I think someone has had to unlock my car for me, and the top part of the door was bent out. Roll down your window, and have someone help you bend it back into place.

I finally got a chance to get some pics of what I am talking about. I still haven't tried bending the door back but I am going to give it a shot this weekend.

Oh yeah, it definitely looks like someone tried prying it out. Just put the window down when you go to bend it back

Normal.....i've seen that on a couple of neons. it happens when the door is slammed a lot (or someone tryies to pry it open).......sometimes people slam it while the seat-belt buckle is between the door and the frame. mine was like that when i first bought it....and i was thinking that i had to change the door...

super easy fix though...lower the window, grab that part and, while holding the lower part of the door and bend it back in place. it is super flimsy you will be surprised how easily that could be done......

Good luck. i did mine in 1 minute, both sides (driver and passenger) ....

Thanks for the help everyone. I actually thought this would be a pain in the butt to get fixed but it didn't take anytime at all. I don't have it completly bent back into shape but it looks better than it did and it seems to seal a lot better also.

Interesting. I got the same issue, but on the Passenger side door.

And since we're on the subject of doors, anyone have an issue with their back two doors being hard to close? As in it seems like the hinges aren't greased enough or something and you have to guide it shut all the time?

haha, yeahh..... when I have people back there they NEVER close the door all the way when they get out. It doesn't just want to close like the front doors. I thought about greasing the hinges but never remember to do it because I use the driver's door

Lol yea, I get the same reaction from people. They slightly push the door shut, but it doesn't even hit close to latching and they just look at the door like "wtf?" and I gotta tell 'em everytime "yea, it's stupid... just gotta slam it a little harder"... same deal with the roll-down rear windows  that gets 'em everytime "how do you have power front windows, but not rears??"
