The VW Scene

Post by He Hate Me » Sun Mar 01, 2009 10:47 pm

I figured I might aswell start a log for the new money pit. So let's get started.

Well lets see how this all started...

I was at Fort Lee, VA for Army job training, I made a rash decision to buy a car... I wanted something with a little more luxury styling and less of the "racer" feel to it, but still wanted some performance. I ended up with this:

2005 Infiniti G35 6SPD
Image
I absolutely loved this thing! 305HP RWD feels so nice...
I did the tint, and than I traded it back in after a month... :tardbang:

I than made a rash decision of choosing a 2001 Volkswagen Passat 1.8T GLS Tiptronic. Stock. Silverstone Grey. I had my eye on the car the first time I got to the lot, I was never really a VW fan, but this car caught my eye. I than thought to myself, "My fiance' likes Jettas, she'll have to like the Passat". So after a few mins, I bought it...

It has:
Leather heated seats
Moonroof

The car was far from excellent, it is a salvage title, but other than that, the interior is good, the exterior is good.

So now for some pics, these are all I have as of right now, the car is actually still at Fort Lee, VA (well just outside the gate lol). I'm getting it shipped here ASAP, it's been 3 months since I've touched it haha.

These are from my iPhone, and they aren't great weather conditions.

^ ^ yes, it's dirty I know! As soon as I get it, it will be getting a engine flush and fresh Amsoil!

It's been wierd getting adjusted to a new forum; PassatWorld, but it has gave me a good direction in which I want to go, and these is what I'm hoping to go far as far as exterior:

Image

So far for mods I have:
HP EVO 18x8 HyperDark Silver Wheels
Pirelli P-Zero Rosso Tires
H&R Sport Springs
Euroswitch
VAG-COM
Greddy Turbo Timer
FK Mesh Badgeless Grill
Oettinger Badges

Will get pics as they come in, some I have, just need pics.

Within the week:
Votex Lip Kit
ECU Tune

Down the road:
Garret GT28RS

Replacement parts:
Oil Dipstick Tube (Mine was brittle on broke while I checked the oil lol)
Green Revised Coolant Temperature Sensor

All these parts and no car to put it on haha.

I look forward to how this car ends up, so far it seems like it has potential, the Neon will be my "all out" car, I want the Passat to remain reliable since the fiance' will be driving it, but want it to also look nice and have some "umph" to it aswell.

Forgot to add: I have also recently become a Amsoil dealer, yay :thefinger: So if you could check out my site, it's not completely finished yet, but it's getting there. http://www.cdaamsoil.com I decided to do this because I might as well represent a great product, and a way to meet more car enthusiasts and provide a little more income! :)

Thanks for looking! I will keep this updated appropriately  [/img]

I like both cars, but I think the Passat is a step-up in terms of class. Ask me five years ago which I'd choose, it would have been the G35. Ask me today, and I'd take the Passat, as you have yours optioned here.

Have fun with it. German cars (especially VW) have their own odd, quirky way of engineering things, from the overall powertrain to the smallest details.
Drive it like you stole it, and work on it like you married it.

I hope the car being salvage doesn't come back to bite you.

I will never own a german car again, way too much of a PITA

BRR: PM sent

racer12306: I really hope it doesn't come back to bite me either, it's a really nice car, I knew when I bought it that things were going to be a little more expensive to replace, hopefully it stays to a minimum though. I've had absolutely no problems with my Neon through all it's been through even with the turbo setup; As long as proper maintenance is performed.

Thank you for all the replys!

I just sent a PM to Diabl0 to become a 2GN vendor, so we'll just wait for a reply, than I can offer some Amsoil here with of course a 2GN ONLY discount

Edit: Sent him a email, I see that he hasn't logged in for awhile lol

Good news!

Tires came in just now!

Pirelli P-Zero Rosso 225/40/18

Remember, I'm looking for more of a touring car with performance, it doesn't need ultra high performance street tires

It doesn't look like there is any tread, but they are just dirty, theres plenty of tread there

That was going to be my first comment, WHOA where's the tread! If you can get it to look as clean as the picture you posted of the car from jersey that will be sick.

Oh don't worry, it will look LIKE it, but not the same, I don't want the same thing happening with what happen to your car.

I have found the front lip + side skirts (RS4) and will be ordered Friday, but I can't find the dang rear lip, I may just color match mine and cut out a section for the tips.

Here is a pic of the wheels I ordered, just waiting for them to get here...

Image
MMMmmhhh 3" lip

Oh, what does everyone think about the "shark fin" antenna on the Passat listed in the first post. I like it, colormatched of course. Or should I just go with a little stubby black one? The stock one is HUGE lol

I agree...if you can match the fin go for it...other wise revert to a stubby.

They will be mounted friday, but I am still waiting on this Passat to get here, it's still at Colonial Heights, VA. I had a bad experience with one shipping company already, so were on stand by, I'm going to call a shipping company when I get off class, and have them get it here ASAP, want to do a little road trip over spring break with it, get familiar with it ;).

This is a sound clip I found:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en6Qo6ge ... annel_page

And a lot of other parts (I'll take pics when they come in, more of a surprise ;)), it's going to be like Christmas here in a few days!

OH! And the best news of all, the Passat is getting picked up Monday and will be here the following Monday! (3/16) It's going to be busy installing all these partsss

Well I haven't updated for awhile, so I figured I would.

Passat will be here Friday or Monday!

I've been thinking about doing a flat black offset racing stripe, what's everyone think about that, it will align with the driver and be only 5" wide.

Been getting parts about everyday in the mail, very nice! More parts are still coming...

Here's what I got so far:
Image

+ H&R Sport Springs (1.75inch front, 1.5 inch back)
+ Nokya Hyper Yellow Stage 1 Foglights
+ 5 quarts AMSOIL European Formula (Only way to go!)
+ AMSOIL Engine Flush (1.8T engines are prone to sludge, so I'm taking measures to prevent it)
+ AMSOIL P.I. (Fuel injector pretty much)
+ MANN Filter (HUGE!)
+ Green tipped coolant sensor (Upgrade from stock somehow)
+ VAG-COM Cable + Software (Able to connect to laptop and read lots of vehicle settings + change!)
+ Chrome Door Handles (They are actual metal, not vinyls. I'm not a huge fan of chrome, but since they're is already chrome mouldings on the car, I'm going to work with it rather than take it off. Don't worry this is the only chrome added to the car, it actually looks really good.
+ Euroswitch (7 different light settings for fogs, drls, and headlight combos)
+ Kamei Grill Badge (goes on the Kamei grill, the grill I bought didn't have one lol)
+ Oettinger Badge (I am going to mount it like a Challenger SRT-8 badge, on the lip spoiler to the right)
+ Oil dipstick tube (mine is broke lol)

Not pictured:
+ HP Evo Lightnings 18x8 mounted on Pirelli P-Zero Rosso 225/40/18 (currently sanding for some curb rash)
+ Duplicolor Red Caliper Paint Kit (ricey?)

In the mail:
- QTP 2.25 E-cutout package (going to keep stock exhaust and just install this, so it can be quiet and not loud all the time. I can't wait for this part!)
- Greddy Black Turbo Timer (little extra safety procaution for the lady)
- Silverstone Grey Paint, Primer, Clearcoat (so I can paint my parts)
- Kamei Mesh Badgeless Grill (will color match around, but not the mesh)
- Rieger Eye Lids (will color match!)
- Shark fin antenna (will color match!)
- M3 lip spoiler (will color match!)

Need to order:
- Tint
- Offset Flat Black Racing stripe (?)
- ECU Tune (Inmotion Tuning)
- Boost gauge + mount
- Rear window spoiler (will color match)
- Interior mats
- AFE CAI (will be last)
- Front mount intercooler kit (not much of a priority)
- Clear corners
- Front lip/valance, RS4 side skirts, and can't find a rear lip/valance

Going to be a busy day soon!

No on the offset stripe, and yes, painting the stock calipers any bright color is ricey.

Other than that, looks like you're on a hell of a roll! I can't wait for my fiance' to go over the milage on her warranty so I can start modding her '08 Jetta Wolfsburg.

Random1: Thank you for the comment!

suave23: The '08 Jetta has the same engine as a GTI, so there will defintely be a good aftermarket for it! It's always fun to start modding a car from the beginning again, a whole new sensation. Before I was never really into the European side, I mean I liked BMWs and that was about it, but the more I research the more I become more attracted to it, but my Neon will never leave, it's a true car, not 1 problem that I haven't caused!

So should I paint the calipers black than? I'm going to go with a G2 kit, researched them and they are A LOT better than Duplicolor.

Yeah, a lot of people don't realize that the '08 Wolfsburgs have the 2.0T. Hers is a 6 speed auto, so I doubt I'll mess with the motor too much, but I do plan on coilovers, 19" wheels, and blacking out some of the chrome. Her car is black and I've already had the windows tinted so it looks pretty sharp already.

As for the calipers, I'd say black or a dark gray. Just a clean, almost factory appearance.
