shell nitrogen enriched gas.

Post by Neon4Life » Sat Mar 07, 2009 11:26 pm

so i didnt know where to post this so i posted here in the off topic section. but my question is whats the deal with the gas at the shell gas station. like is it really suppose to clean the engine up a bit, and it seems like all they are doing is adding fuel additives to their gas making it seem to me like the gas is just going to burn more faster.

so anyone any ideas thoughts on the shell gas..

I noticed this "Nitrogen Enhanced" (or whatever) sign today at our Shell. I don't buy gas from them anyways.

Now that's lame. They should have put oxygen in it instead. Oxygenated fuel is so much cooler. It's like extra air coming in through the fuel injectors. Nitrogen just takes up space.

Shell is over priced. Burn faster?! That means its a lower octane.

The air we breath is 78% nitrogen. So what does a tad more really do?
New Nitrogen Enriched Shell V-Power is designed to maintain thermal stability under extremely hot engine temperatures found in today's most advanced fuel-efficient engines.

Using lower quality premium grade gasolines can allow gunk to build up on intake valves and fuel injectors.
Now tell me how an intake valve that is getting washed with fresh fuel is going to get deposits built up on it? Develop a fuel that cleans the exhaust valves and I'll be sold. When I removed my head, the intakes were spotless on the back side. The exhaust valves were so covered with build up they were sealing marginally.
Of course if EGR is used, and there is a ton of crap getting sucked through the EGR system they might have an argument. I noticed on some of the newer models at the car show they are using EGR again. :tardbang:

Isn't that the 10% ethanol blend that seems to be causing a stir here lately?

Nope, all fuels have a level of oxygen. Ethanol more than straight petrol. When you say "Oxygenated", it's assumed that more oxygen was artificially added for performance benefit.
It works good too.

Oxygenated fuels are awesome for performance. Who needs real oxygen when your fuel has it

Generally oxygenated fuel is used in low oxygen applications such as planes. But it is typically illegal in a "class car"

Then what is the crap the MD stations use during winter months that states oxygenated fuel is being dispensed for some BS reason, and why do I get worse gas mileage.

My point being oxygenated fuel should provide better gas mileage but in Maryland with their special winter blend which supposedly "oxygenated" you lose about 10-15% on your MPG

If you want to REALLY "oxygenate" your fuel, try Nitrous. :D

Nitromethane would probably be even better (if your engine can live through it.)

This is why I go to anyone of the various smaller gas stations ran by mexicans. Those last me a week or two on a fill-up.

Fuel Economy FTMFL with nitromethane.
