Has anyone done red leds in cluster?
I was wanting to know if anyone did red leds in the cluster. I want to do mine but i want to see how it turned out first.
No one on this site that I know of has red leds for the gauges, but I do have the red turn signals:

For the entire cluster to be red you would need to take it apart and scrape or use lacquer thinner to remove the green film.
For just turn signals all you need is some Q-tips and lacquer thinner.

REALLY!!!, Most people on this site have the same 5wled bulb, including myself. Try shining red light through green film, it looks exetremely dim even in complete darkness, completely unseen during the day. That is true you don't need to take the green film off, especially when you are cruising on the highway at night , who needs gauges??The ONLY leds that can be used without taking the film off are white, blue and green, all others must have the film removed in order to see, do you think I took the film off just for the hell of it?mattern248 wrote:you don't even need that go to littlesparkplugs priject log to see were she gets her leds and all i got mine from superbrightleds.com they ork awsome but i have blue so it's really hard to see the red "danger" areas

well what he is saying is use a q tip with acetone on it then rub it against the green color film on the reverse side it will eat it but not the plastic then take some clean ones and wipe it clean and tada down, if i am understanding im right.

If you want red, I think you should clean the color off and do red. Why settle for blue if you really want red? I just scratched the color off mine, with a utility knife blade, keeping it flat so it didn't dig in. I was a little nervous about it but it turned out great. I had the whole thing apart, cleaned, back together, and gauges calibrated in one night. Did mine in orange, I'm really happy with it. it's kind of hard to see, but all the "danger zones" still show up in red.

if i do that how do you calibrate the cluster. thats new to me. i did not know that you had to do that
There should be a how to somewhere.
EDIT: it's in here: viewtopic.php?t=27518
And there's a sticky in the interior section that could be helpful too, it's called anatomy of a gauge cluster.

Thanks for the pics, they really help. I want black light LEDs, so removing that layer is important.supermike wrote:If you want red, I think you should clean the color off and do red.
