I got a quote from a shop that paitns cars at $4k...and they use the best brand paints, and he told me $200 for my hood. So I don't know where $500 came from.

So yeah, its bogus.

Wow I can't believe the things people fight over.

Xtian, if I were you I would post a scan of the estimate Maaco gave you just to shut them up.

Other people, why does it matter how much he says they said it would cost?

Because he makes up b.s. excuses about everything... he didn't get an SRT because the dealer had someone who would pay up front instead of financing, he hasn't gotten his hood painted because even though Maaco has 199 whole car specials, his hood is going to cost 500 dollars to paint, etc. He lies, and we're calling him out on it.

Even if you like the factory primer look, you should color match it with at least some quality rattle can satin black.
The primer they paint those with is only to keep them from rusting sitting in the warehouse. You will have the rusted look soon enough if you leave it that way.
Be sure to put a few coats on the underside and spray the crap out of the inside of the reinforcements as well.
Leaving it on with the shipping primer is basically thowing your $ away.

I know of a great local that could paint it for pretty cheap. If you hadn't been such a dick in the past, I'd think about telling you who it was. Oh well.

I couldn't resist. He got all butthurt about something I said regarding his accident that wasn't meant to be harsh or even smartassed. Then he decided to say some really immature, spiteful shit to me in response. I told him to lay off and I forgot about it. Then I get into an accident with my car and he brings it up again and continues to be a dick. That's a great way to get onto my shit list, and 98% of the time, it's a one way ticket.

Unfortunately for him, I'm an oldschool local with more knowledge about his own car than he will ever have. He just pissed away one of his, if not THE greatest resource he had for his car because of his shitty attitude and disrespect. Sucks to be him right about now.

No offense but you guys bitchin at him seems so lame to me. This was supposed to be a thread on his new hood, not a controversy over how much his hood would cost painted.

And it wasn't until someone mentioned how it seemed a bit high and he freaked out telling us we should call Maaco etc...

Okay guys. Enough. If you don't have something constructive to say, keep it in your head.

If he wants to over pay to have his hood painted let him.

Xtian, you have a history of not telling the whole truth in the past, so people have a tendancy to take things you say with a grain of salt, bear that in mind before answering...

Xtian, you really want to shop around a little bit. I thought those prices were pretty nuts so I called two places in Seattle. This is what they said:

Kim's Auto Repair & Body: $350

Professional Collision: North Seattle Moore's: $338

Not trying to piss anyone off, just got off the phone with a local Maaco (Seattle area) and was quoted $200.

EDIT - Frank, you scare me.

I'll just do it now, because it may cause an uproar.

Honestly, Xtian, I don't understand why you lie so much. You won't get any sympathy because people can smell BS.
