Did anyone find out how to fix the leak on passenger floor?

Post by kevin25 » Thu Mar 26, 2009 9:22 am

I have this leak that when it rains water is on my passenger floor. I noticed it dripping from the a/c box right under the passenger dash. It drips out of that little plastic plug.
This happens because of the water build up on the windshield cowl, and when you turn it goes into the plenum area and into the a/c box under the passenger dash and onto your floor.
I know I can close the that outside air flap by turning my hivac knob to recircultate but I want a permanent fix.
Has anyone fixed this problem, if so pics are a thousands words and tell me how you fixed it.
Thanks

Honestly, I haven't noticed it after I had a new windshield installed.

permanent fix = weld over the hole in the wiper cowl with a piece of metal or something .. . i guess that would work.

when it happened to me i got water in the heater core (i think) so sometimes it still smells nasty and moldy when the window vents are on.... not nice!

Will I have heard that you can also use window silicone under the cowl, but I have no idea were to start?

make sure that the cowl drains are not plugged, they like to fill with leaves and debris. They are located under the fenders, i cleaned mine out with a piece of stiff wire and a hose. They are probably plugged causing the water to over flow and go through the secondary drain under the dash. There should be a small rubber hose under the ds dash that goes from the cowl through the frame to the outside of the car in front of the door.

well thats one way of fixing it. You could have just gotten a rubber plug but oh well. Suprised you got a welder in there, its pretty tight.

When it rains put your HVAC controls on recirculate instead of intake. Clean out your cowl and your cowl drains. Make sure everything is free of debris. :)

Been there, done that. But when I take the blower motor out, I can reach up inside the box where the heater core itself is, and I can feel leaves and debris. Im going to assume that has something to do with it. Kinda bothers me, no leak for 7 years, now the last 2 it leaks every time it rains moderately hard.
