mopar sides vs RT sides?

Post by silversport » Fri Apr 10, 2009 12:31 pm

ok nm, seems like i figured this out but just for other people the RT side skirts are not mounted the same as the ones you order through the dealer. there is no mounting strip but instead clips at the top of the skirt that I assume go into holes drilled by you. on the bottom of the skirt I assume you still use self tapping screws and the double sided tape

The factory R/Ts have them attached with christmas tree fasteners I believe. Also, why are you inquiring... did you get another 2gn we don't know about??

Here are the clips the factory RT skirts use on the top portion. They go into holes in the rocker panel. You can use these clips on the Mopar skirts and you can use the mounting rail that comes on the Mopar skirts with the R/T skirts. The skirts are identical.

Wow, I like that mounting system better than the rails...

I've never heard of those little tab thingies. I have only known about the rails, and thats what I had to use on mines.

I have always wondered what those tab wholes were for.

Yes, there are holes drilled in the rocker panels on r/t's. I don't know what size the holes are. I'd guess around 1/4" diameter. If I can find the clips I could measure them to find out, but I have no idea where I stashed them.

I prefer the Mopar style rail mounting because it allows a little room for error while still providing a nice fit. The tabs need the holes to be drilled in the perfect poition for a nice fit of the skirt.

I wish they would've taken the time to attach the front and rear lips on the R/Ts. And coat the lips with more than just a single coat of paint. :cussing:

u can buy them at ur local dodge dealer (clips) mine had them in stock.... all u have to do for the proper hole size is squeze the clips together and find a drill bit that size, (enough to push the clip threw the rocker) it was not that hard to install them either off an rt to non rt car...

all i did was run a 3/4 inch tape line accross the door lip, then mounted all the clips in the sideskirts, set the sideskirt up to the rocker, marking where the holes had to be drilled... (double and triple checking everthing before i drilled) then drilled, (paint over the whole so they will not rust where the whole was just made... make sure to have ur car in the air though to get the drill at the correct angle the the drill does not move on u.... then drill them..... mount the lip pushing them on... that covers the side, as for the bottom i used christmas tree style clips and drilled the wholes when the lip was mounted from the side... installed the christmas trees....

for all four peaces i think i have about 4 hrs invested.... two of the hours were taken by having the balls to drill in my rockers...

Did someone call me? :D

Ok, heres the deal. Chrysler never listed the retainers for the R/T claddings. The only number they show (and this wasn't till 2003) is for the round christmas tree style clips. I tried muiltiple times to try and get the part #'s for them :cussing:

However...seeing the pic that 03blackrt posted (thank you btw) that apears to be a Jeep Liberty bumper/cladding retainer.

Part #55156655AA, MSRP $5.10 each.

Without seeing them side by side I can't swear to it that they are the same, but it sure looks like it

YAY For Dante!!! Do you like....search for your name and then come running? I'm surprised I didn't see a pic of Chtear posted in this thread :D

Wow 5.10/each damn.....I'll have to garner if that's worth it.

 No, I was just reading this thread as well

Since you said something about the lack of Chtear whoreness, I was contemplating posting a picture of her rockers saying "Now here is where the claddings would be if she had them..."

Couldn't quite bring myself to do it though

your SRT doesn't have all the holes down the side for skirts. that black clip you got there came off a 04 and i got some off a 03 they wrecked the skirts on with a forklift. both those SRT had the clips holding them is yours later in the build year. thats weird it use the "tracks" like the lip kit right.

Mine has XMAS tree fasteners holding it in, it always has. The circular head ones. At least underneath anyways, If you're talking about along the rocker itself I don't recall if it had those or not...
