Remote mount IAC valve

Post by occasional demons » Sat Apr 11, 2009 7:54 pm

After modding my Ghetto blaster IM to direct mount the Ford TB, I found that the IAC wouldn't clear the radiator hose.
I attempted clocking it 180º which seemed to work at first.
Then it started acting up; the idle getting very erratic. I guess the solenoid doesn't like reverse airflow.

So I decided to remove the IAC all together from the TB.

IAC in wrong direction.

Sorry forgot to take a pic of it hitting the hose.

First I made a plate to mount the IAC to.

I fabbed a block off plate for the TB.

Then I routed some tubing, bought an "L" bracket from Lowe's, and mounted it to the battery tray. I also reinstalled my catch can while I was there.

Thanks for looking!

LilSparkPlug: I thought of this years ago, when considering a TB without IAC provisions for my Cherokee, but never did put a larger TB on. So the thinking was there. I think someone else here has done it, or mentioned it too.

z3roneo: I did everything but weld it. The top inlet has a tube that extends down about 3/4 way to help keep the oil from getting sucked out the outlet. I have a cooler mounted in the cowl to help condense the hot vapors from the VC.
The little bit of brass you see between the tee, and the heater tubes is where the PCV valve is. That way there isn't any vacuum on the system. The catch can can be drained while the engine is running. (If there really was a need  ) There is a little drain plug at the bottom of the sight tube.

I just need to repaint the injector cover.
I am thinking of debadging it. Since the VC says the same thing.

Thanks for the compliments!

Definately cleans up the TB quite a bit by removing the IAC motor.I'm going to be doing something similar once I progress with my SC project.

I like it also.

I was actually looking for a non IAC TB, but for $15, I couldn't turn down this one. The 60mm is definately more user friendly than the 65mm I was using.

Edit: I have put around 100 miles on this, and so far it acts normal, no troubles with idle speed. It is a bit noisier than when it was on the TB. I guess the sound traveling through the tube makes a difference.

Thanks guys!

Altho I have changed the vacuum side back to the TB as it was causing problems being tied into the big line for the brake booster. Takes away too much vacuum for the power brakes. A dedicated line from the IM would work also, if you don't want the lines at the TB.
