Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

I'm trying to replace my clutch slave cylinder, but can't seem to find a part that will fit!
On the one that came on my car, the pin only sticks out from the cylinder about one inch when pressed all the way in.
I can only find one slave cylinder listed for all 2nd gens at Advance, Napa, and Autozone, and they all have pins that stick out about 2"!!! Which won't fit at all!
Am I crazy? Have I been confusing my neon for another car all this time? NOBODY seems to have any other cylinders listed anywhere

Well, I solved my own mystery. It only took calling 5 dealerships and 3 parts stores to find the answer
Dodge changed the design of the slave cylinder after 2002 and made an adapter bracket for older cars to allow them to run the new cylinder.
So $20 later I should be back in buisness!

Good info to know! Maybe this should be stickied.
Because I sure as heck didn't have an answer for you!

Long time lurker doesn't describe you
Congrats on fixing the problem
Generally one of our fine Dodge "representatives" including BRR and Danteneon are able to answer questions like that. In the future that might be the best way to figure something like that out.

another thing you can do to use the stock mounting bracket is measure the old cyl rod and cut the new cyl rod to length ensure to round the end a bit. Did it with mine and it works perfectly. Saved myself the grief of fighting with autoparts shops and the stealership. hope that helps anybody in the future as well.

I don't think the cable setup has a slave cylinder, does it?
There could be a number of reasons for the change, but I couldn't find any info online. How many miles are on your car? Maybe that style slave had more failures than the one they switched to after 02.

its a dealer item, however if you read my post you can modify the new ones to work just like the stock one without spending 20$ on the adapter plate

Sorry to rez a dead thread, but I am having the exact same issue. My replacement slave's rod doesn't compress enough to install in my 2001. Do you still by chance have the part number for that adapter, as my local Dodge dealership seems to be run by people who have very little knowledge and also seem that English is their second language.

Somehow, I doubt he will answer you.
Possibly may have been: 4670237 Clutch Slave Cylinder Bracket,
Mounting
But it seems it may be discontinued.
Did you bleed the system after installing it?

Thought I should reply so others may find an answer.
I spoke with a mechanic friend of mine, shortly after my last post. He came over, looked at my two cylinders (Old and New), and then just pulled the rod out of my old one and put it into my new one. Problem solved.
I didn't know you could do that, as I don't have much experience with hydraulic components. He explained, that the rods just push against a "bowl" in the cylinder that compresses. Otherwise, they are just free floating in there, with the rubber boot to hold them in place.
Sure enough. Fixed the problem, and the clutch went right in, and the clutch system has been great ever since!

I've done that lots of times on forklifts when replacing master cylinders (for brakes) and for some reason they rarely have the right actuators that come with them. I usually just use the old one. I suppose when I'm 100 miles from the shop and we're charging $107/hr, I gotta figure something out quickly.
