PVO mod for SRT-4 Hood?

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

PVO mod for SRT-4 Hood?

Post by mopar4life » Thu Apr 16, 2009 9:03 pm

I got to thinkin about the hood mod for a SRT-4 hood earlier. Does anyone have the link to the instructions and will it add any power due to the ram air effect if I did it? Wouldnt I have to take the lid off my airbox to make it work or would I be better off without even modding my hood?

slight power gain, but only at speed.

The PVO mod from what I remember also includes a hold and a foam seal around the hold in the airbox lid.

Thats where I need the power really. Ive heard of true ram air systems making like 40hp over the 1/4 at peak so would I be crazy to expect maybe 10hp?

run 2 (another baseline)
r/t: .183
60': 2.440
330': 6.967
1/8: 10.656
mph: 66.53
1000': 13.832
1/4: 16.484
mph: 85.49

run 3 (ram air)
r/t: .203
60': 2.415
330': 6.901
1/8: 10.571
mph: 66.33
1000': 13.745
1/4: 16.397
mph: 85.08

remember to look at the 60' time, i got a better launch on the ram air pass, but not a tenth better launch.

It helped a tad bit. I bet on a turbo it'd help a little more than N/A. I could do the hood mod and a short ram intake and probably show some difference. Ill let more chime in and skim over the other forums and see if they've showed any difference worth talkin about with it.

the hood mod plus a short ram would defeat the purpose of the ram air.

True, a short ram wouldnt help me anyways. Ive already got a K&N drop in, the only thing the short ram has different is the actual tube but the air would flow right past the filter and into just the engine bay. I might try and do this before too long.

Thanks for the link Joseph, thats what I was lookin for lol.

I wonder what it would do for a non-SRT with an SRT hood? Probably even less lol

Mods like this are hard to prove with iron clad evidence. Even 1/4 mile times are misleading because there are so many other factors involved with manual transmissions it's hard to set a baseline.

Direct ram air is ideal, but the srt isn't really a true ram air. It would probably make a bigger gain for a N/A engine, a turbo compresses the air 10x more than any ram air could accomplish.
