Rattling Exhaust?

Post by Dimas » Thu Apr 16, 2009 10:29 pm

Quick ?, well recently while driving in 1st and 2nd gear it seems like the exhaust is either rattling but it just sounds horrible like I'm some damn ricer ugh, buddy of mine was thinking that there maybe a hole in the exhaust. I have yet to look underneath the car since I'm busy but, I was just wondering about your guys opinions.

I will most likely look for the the holes (if there are any) and reseal them for a temp. fix.

Any opinions on a good exhaust?

What exhaust are you running right now? Is this a new development or has it always been this way? If there was a hole ahead of the muffler it would be louder and you'd know.

could be the heat shield has come loose if it's a rattling sound.

That's what happened in one of my cars. It was the cat falling apart on the inside. Can you tell where the rattle is? At least if it's towards the front of the car vs the back?

mine is the silencer rattling at a certain RPM. either pop it in neutral when you're decelerating at those RPMs or get through them quicker.

My car sounds like a big lawnmower with stock everything. I just assume the parts are old and worn, and I should get new ones.

It's not too terrible of the rattle but it does seem to be coming from the middle of the car, i guess around the cat area

I don't feel like a hole in the exhaust system would sound like a huge annoying rattle, more like a buzzing sound.

The rattle could either be a loose heat shield, or as someone else stated, your cat could be taking a shit. This happened in my old camaro.

$329.00 way to high, and loud as fvck!

For $195 and I doubt shipping will be $100, Tru Bendz has 2.5" or 2.25" pipes in stainless.

I can get a link later if you want.

http://www.trubendz.com

When you select the Neon pipes it sends you here:
http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com/se ... UST/Detail

And shipping for the pipes is about $25. (USA) Imagine that.

You will have to purchase a muffler seperately, but then you would have with that ebay ripoff anyways.

That's a great price for a mandrel bent catback. I assume it comes without any type of flanges though huh? Tack on another $100 in labor at a muffler shop for modifications (unless you have access to a welder).

What would you need a flange for?

It just slips on the back of the cat on my car. They provide a reducer if you go 2.5" to adapt to the 2.25" cat outlet. If you were replacing/eliminating the cat then you would need that flange at the mani/header. Alot of ppl run with out the flex joint at the end of the cat, but I can't say I recommend it with the oem cat. The magnaflow oem replacement cat has a true flex joint at the mani/header flange. So it may hold up better than factory.

My main point is what you pay in shipping with the ebay one, you can buy a decent muffler/what ever. $75 difference goes a decent ways.
