breather or pcv valve

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

breather or pcv valve

Post by esfan » Sun Apr 19, 2009 8:20 pm

i heard someone said that a breather can do a better job than a pcv valve, because the major function of a pcv valve is to carry the crankcase gas back to throttle body and let the engine to reburn them to avoid pressure built. how about the breather? is that the same function except that it let the crankcase gas flow to the air (with filter). so does it make any differences? or just because people do not wanna pollute the environment so they prefer engine to reburn the gas...

The PCV is better because it maintains a vacuum on the system. This removes unwanted gases.

The engine will function better with the PCV.

:withstupid: Don't remove the PCV valve, it's important.

A breather will not change performance any noticeable amount, if at all. Save your time and money.

Why?

So moisture can build up in your engine?

Let us know how it works out.

^^I think he has a breather on IIRC.

Just leave the PCV, I think the breathers are ugly.

Ahh, he didn't specify.

As long as the air inlet (the PCV valve being the outlet)for the VC runs into the air cleaner box, or CAI tube it should be good. You don't want unfiltered air going into the engine.

Those aftermarket make up filters are prolly better than that square POS they put in the air box. So they may look rice, but they also do have some redeeming qualiy.
