HVAC control relocation

Post by supermike » Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:26 pm

Relenger's thread on the digital hvac control got me thinking a little, so I started a new thread instead of threadjacking. Has anyone experimented with moving the control panel for the hvac only? Either changing it's position in the center console or putting it somewhere different?

Just a matter of getting the cables to reach and not getting them snagged on anything I would imagine.

It would also probably mean moving the stereo too.

Well I'm assuming that was already in the cards. That's usually the reason most people move them.

The deepest position with the original cables is this:

Therefor you just have to reroute he cables and to remove the plastic frame behind the bezel. When you remove the bezel, the radio, the radio frame and the air duct you will see somewhere deep inside a metal bar. The cables run over the bar. You have to redirect them under it (somewhere is a small gap, don't break your fingers!)

In this picture you can see the metal bar and how i removed the radio frame:
Attention, older pic, please do not remove the frame for the lower switch thingy (rear window defrost / lighter plug)!!
