Tire Pressure 205 40 17

Post by latief » Thu Apr 23, 2009 9:46 am

Just put on my rims with the 205/40/17 tires...needless to say that these are thin tires..

anyhow, max PSI on these potenzas is 51psi......

I have put them at 40ish since that is where i kept my 16s......

off course the 32psi factory recommendation is absolute at this point...

what is a good pressure for these? and boy is the ride rough, but they are quiet which is good....

Thanks,

your running a thinner tire, so having 40 psi is making the stiff ride. go down to 32, that way you get a little more "cushion"

But, with the lesser tire pressure, i might increase the chance of rim damage, is this a correct analysis ?

I think i will push them to to 36 to see if the ride improves a bit....i will be going with bigger tires in t he future .......

Edit: I see you are running similar size tires, what pressure do you set them at?

Yes

You have to avoid pot holes like never before.

I hate seeing underiflated rubberbands. They look like they are almost flat at the recommended psi.
I would keep the fronts as high as you can stand it. The rears you can prolly safely go under 32.

I know on my 195/60R14's you can have 10 psi in the rear tires and the sidewalls look normal.
I don't recommend it tho.

those tires are tiny, My autox tire pressure with that size was around 39 so id say run them between 32-36

when i first got my rims I had that size tire, its just too small for the rim. and just as a heads up I think your spedo will be off by -3% also with that size.

Try the pressures i used when I had that size tire. I used to run them on the high side cuz durring cold nights the pressures would go down but u are in florida so I doubt thats an issue.

lol well, right now I am running a staggered setup, 225/45/17 in front, 215/40/17rear.

the best size to run for stock struts on 17s is 215/40/17 i am pretty sure they won't hit and its a 1-2% difference from the spedo compared to the stock size tires. Also running the 215s gets rid of the stretched tire look u get with the 205s.

The good part about 205/40/17s tires is that they are much cheaper!
