FYI
do not know if this was brought up
but if a car company does indeed go bankrupt they have to continue making oem parts for 7-10 years

I hear bits and pieces of the story from my regional when he pops in.Most of which by the time I hear it from him, its already posted on the internet. As for the whole caliber/neon thing...The Caliber was brought to the market AS the neon replacement.
Also note the PT cruiser ends in 2010 and the "All New Neon" is coming back....
NOT, the neon is dead............

Here is a review on the Fiat 500...... it actually sounds like it would be a blast to drive.
Now THIS I could consider, a "Neon replacement".

Hurray, no more Daimler! Too bad that Chrysler had to die for its freedom.allpar.com wrote:April 27th, 2009- German automaker Daimler AG has agreed to give Cerberus Capital Management its 19.9 percent share of Chrysler LLC and write off a $1.5 billion loan, helping the Detroit automaker to clear way for the Detroit automaker’s proposed alliance with Fiat SpA and avoid bankruptcy.
Daimler today signed a term sheet with Cerberus Capital Management and the U.S. Pernsion Benefit Guaranty Corp. The agreement ends the DaimlerChrysler era, which left Chrysler in a shambles, followed by Cerberus’s acquisition, which burdened Chrysler with billions of dollars in debt.
Under the deal, Cerberus and Chrysler will waive all claims against Daimler and Chrysler will make three annual payments of $200 million each into the company’s pension plans, beginning on Thursday, April 30 and on the same date in 2010 and 2011. Daimler, which had already written the value of its stake down to zero, will take an expense of $700 million against pre-tax earnings in the second quarter.
In a statement, Daimler said:
“Daimler’s remaining 19.9 percent shareholding in Chrysler will be redeemed, and Daimler will forgive repayment of the loans extended to Chrysler, which were already written off in the 2008 financial statement.”
The Daimler statement also said, “Following the transfer of the term sheet into the final definitive agreements, the relationship between Daimler and Chrysler will solely consist of dealer-supplier-customer relations including limited support for certain dealer financing until the end of September 2009.”

Looks like the deal with Fiat is going through...
http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2009/04/2 ... -fiat.html
I'm hoping we see Chrysler with more reliable vehicles and a better selection of smaller vehicles that will have some appeal.

Some miserable Chrysler debtors are not willing to play ball... so Chrysler is going to file for bankruptcy.
The upside is that it will be a short process; however, Chrysler will be merging with Fiat and apparently there will be new management at the top.
It will be interesting to see what new vehicles come out of this. The Fiat vehicles would need to be re-engineered to meet North American safety standards.
What are the odds of a Chrysler designed body matted with re-engineered Fiat chassis & drivetrain that truly is a Neon replacement but badged as something else?
Perhaps greater now than at any other point. <shrug>

Truth....but it seems as though alot of good will come out of it. Filing for chapter 11 allows the sale to Fiat to go through in an expedited fashion allowing Chrysler to stay afloat. Business as usual until the deal goes through. They aren't filing for death, just for change.Paul56 wrote:Some miserable Chrysler debtors are not willing to play ball... so Chrysler is going to file for bankruptcy.

I'm anxious to see what comes of this.
