I got the love of my life back!

Im a huge Jeep guy. My first car was a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee and to this date its still my favorite car. Well as luck would have it I have stumbled upon that Jeep magic again. While at work a kid was driving by and his Jeep broke down right in front of our shop. He coasted it into the parking lot and asked if he can keep it there until he can arrange purple heart to get it. I asked him if he would sell it to me instead and he said yeah for a "couple hundred dollars." Well he literally meant $200 and I bought it that day, sight on scene, no questions asked.

We tried to start it in the parking lot and it ran but only on 2 cylinders. It also built up so much pressure in the crank case the dip stick blew out and hit my friend in the head. My buddy then flat towed me home and we started the tear down. The #3 piston is bad and it will need a new engine or a rebuild. Haven't decided which route I want to go yet. If I do a rebuild I will turn it into a budget 4.6L Stroker (old 4.2L crank and con rods, 4.0 pistons with .030 bore over).

So we still haven't decided how it blew up. We have mixed feeling about detonation or maybe something got into the combustion chamber due to the gashes on the top of the piston. Or it may have been a weak piston ring landing. Any ideas?

It almost looks like it will need more than a .030 to get a smooth surface again.
