Removing antenna

Post by vielecustoms » Sun Apr 26, 2009 6:31 pm

How do I remove the complete antenna unit from the fender? I am looking to shave the hole in the fender. I never listen to the radio, just Cd's Ipod or Satellite radio. and I plan on shaving the door handles, and trunk lock and going for the smooth look.

I think if you take the inner fender cover or whatever its called off on the passenger side, you will see it.

or if you really dont care, just unscrew the top and then drop it in the fender and let it hang.... dont know if it could interfere or get caught on anything though...

Disassembly of the actual antenna is simple, but removing it WITH the cable is not. Per the FSM, the cable runs to PDC (power dist.). I decided that rather than pulling the dash apart to trace it down, I'd just snip the cable off and call it a day. If I ever need to reinstall it, I'll either splice it back in, or dig up the end of the old cable and replace the entire assembly.

It isn't that bad really. The cable is two pieces that connect in the passenger kick panel area. The hardest part is getting your hand into the fender area to remove the antenna body. But once you do that, it's cake.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

It's TWO pieces? Where is the connector? I ditched mine like 3 years ago and at the time my patience was limited. Nowadays I pull dashes apart all day at work so I'd be happy to mess with it. Oh well I'm never selling this car and I NEVER listen to the radio, so it's all good.

I already unhooked the antenna just a connector behind the pass kick panel like said above, than just pulled out of the grommet just below where the wiring for the door goes into the car. the interesting part is there is two connectors... they go up behind the head unit, one ends with the Chrysler plug and the other has the standard plug (like all the aftermarket head units use)

I thought about the shorty antenna. but reception here sucks to start with I get one "today's hits" radio station. so I have been using Ipod or Sat. radio and have not used the radio since I got the car.
