Carbon Fiber the Headliner?

Post by BluSoul » Mon Apr 27, 2009 4:07 am

I'm stepping out and crossing the line of no return. I want to completely DIY strip my sunroof/shade headliner and make it 3D blue cf >> http://www.decalfx.com/3d_carbon_fiber_blue_sheets.html, leaving the rest of the headliner fabric stock.

The the C/D panels, oh shit handles, sunroof button, front doors, back doors, seat belt housing, HVAC, instr panel, etc, will also be 3D cf.

I've only seen one post on here with drastic mods on the top >>> viewtopic.php?t=16278&highlight=carbon+fiber+headliner

I say "yeah" to that (but not the whole top). I also admire the way LilSparkPlug made white trim accents to the handles and sunroof >> viewtopic.php?t=34824; this has motivated me to paint mines slighly darker than "carolina blue."

However, I'm thinking of going a stretch further and making the interior theme blue 3D cf (including the seals around the door speakers). This will be an excellent accent to exterior 3D cf mods, and the leather seats I plan on someday for the front and back interior (hopefully this will get done before I'm completely gray). At least, IMO.

Whataya think, anybody? What's under the sunshade headliner; will cf be a compatible fabric? Do I strip the cushion, fiberglass, and whatever else is underneath before applying?? I'm still in the planning stage. I have to get an overall scheme together before I go about tossing dough for stuff.

its just vinyl right? wouldn't that work on the same basis as reskinning the HL? i think that as long as you could get it to stay up on the frame/padding then you'd be straight. unless it got hot...vinyl stretches when it gets hot...

that stuff looks cool. but I wouldn't do it. I just don't think that'd work too hot for the headliner. it'd make a killer brake handle skin etc though!

I like people who BUY a 10 sec car and then brag about it. Thats like hiring someone to bang your wife and then bragging about the kid

Ahhh, we all have our own concepts, our own ways of projecting a little bit of ourselves through this vehicle. Just look across the neon landscape, and you will see some drastically different ideas in terms of car buildups. For example, I think the following is awesome:

The idea of naming your neon "antifreeze" as if the radiator exploded from in front of the car is beyond me, but a unique and interesting concept nonetheless. The owner is a 2GN member.

So, the reason I want CF all over the interior including sunroof/shade HL is be/c my light show will be accentuated by its presence. The CF HL will have a function, considering strobes, and black lights, especially if I blackout everything except the sunroof/shade, which of course will be CF. If and when I do it, you guys will see that it is an interesting concept. Its always great to have the final decision in planning projects like this.

If you want to do it, go for it. If you have an ultimate plan then pull forth with it regardless of what others say. Alot of times the way you see it in your head isn't how it's projected in text so people can't grasp the full concept. Some will love it, some will be indifferent and yet others will hate it. It's how it goes.

Oh and my handles and such are stock color though and I need to paint them darker...maybe next week. :)
