Naw, it wasn't one car that caused all this.

The Chrysler dealership down here is trying to sell Caliber SRT4s for $16,995. Apparently they are having a really hard time moving them because the one that I test drove In early 2008 is still on the lot, along with 3 others that were also there at the time.

I don't care if they call it a Neon or not, but they need a small coupe and/or sedan. This mini-crossover-box-thing they call the Caliber just doesn't cut it in my book.

Dodge Caliber:

"The engine is noisy, and interior fit and finish is subpar. The ride is sound but unexceptional, and handling is lackluster but ultimately secure. The continuously variable transmission works well, but both the 2.0-liter SXT and 2.4-liter R/T we tested lacked punch, and fuel economy wasn't impressive."

Owner satisfaction pegged at worse than average <--- this seems to reflect several NON-owner opinions in this thread.

On the other hand reliability is pegged at better than average.

I'd purchase the Mazda3 4-door hatchback before the Caliber. That Mazda3 is fun and a blast to drive even with the base engine.

Actually the real downfall of most american cars were the fact that most are rolled off the assembly line at a loss and the Big 3 got cute and said, "Lets try and get people to finance a good chunk using out own banks and make up the difference in finance charges." Of course this was before every bank went to crap and losing money.
