350z project log (warning, deceptive thread name).

Post by ejclide » Mon May 04, 2009 2:15 am

Seisephiroth gave me a good idea here. I always like getting input on the models I make, and I figure you guys probably aren't the worst crowd to get opinions from when it comes to cars. so, I'm gonna start sharing with you guys. LUCKY YOU!!!

Here is my most recent project. It's the 350Z Nismo. you watch now. :D

here's what I started with. It's really a pretty nice kit.
Image

after sanding the whole body with 1000 grit, hit it with very fine pigment primer.
Image

I didn't get a pic before I smoothed out the clear, but here it is sanded smooth.
Image

All shined up!
Image

It's tiny. I tried.... you can't tell directly from the picture, but i have big hands...
Image

Interior
Image

These are actually metal. VERY annoying to get on.
Image

A little hint of the shine
Image

Woops, burned through the hood. This is just after I smoothed it out. I have to repaint it again.
Image

Almost finished pics.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

So that's it. For my first nearly completed car it's alright. It's a far reach from my usual types of projects....

And here's my dog dead on the floor from all the paint fumes in the house.
Image

Hope you guys enjoy. My next project (other than the three incompleted planes you see) is either going to be a '77 monte carlo for my boss or an RX-2 for another manager from the store.

Dam thats some real good attention to detail. i get real ancy to finish mine. Heres some pics of my favorites...

This is my baby, I spent over a year building it to my liking.
89-94 Hilux; Shaved doors, cowl, corner lights, tailights, molded rollpan, and boxed in the bed. Wit a custom bumper with shaved lights and molded a fox body mustang bumper to it. its also unibodied. Lexus IS bucket seats, custom center console.
But sadly i took it apart in favor for a custom frame so it actually lays out.

That Z looks awesome. It looks just as detailed as the real car.

Did you use real automotive paint, or just spray paint?

Thanks. The paint was Tamiya as well. I don't like using automotive paint because a lot of times it either has some sort of metal flake or sparkle to it that's not to scale, or the pigment isn't fine enough and it gets too thick in the crevices. I have yet to try automotive paint that wasn't spray can paint though. I might have to have the local paint place mix up a small can for me next time....

Well, I was going for more of the original look, that's why it's the way it is. And for that matter, I like the lip CF. I especially like it on the new ZR-1s too, but they're a whole other breed of sexy, especially with the see through hoods and the rediculous LS9.... I think that's the motor anyway.

Looks awesome man, I used to build models until a few years back but I kinda lost interest and started dumping money into my real car instead... probably a bad idea.

Jetas, I have one of those Hilux too with the poseable 'air suspension' that I started. I painted it Tamiya Blue Metallic but never got any further.

I have tons more pics of models in my photobucket.

Damn that P51 Mustang is badass!!! <33333 I got to see one in person last September, along with a B-25 Mitchell, B-17 Flying Fortress and a B-24 Liberator. I actually flew aboard the Liberator as a birthday present from my mom. The dual flight experience on the P-51 was about $2200 and a bit pricey but the plane was amazing.

I has pics too :)

Oh and nice work on the Z

by last september, do you mean 08, or 07? In 07 there was a HUGE show here in OH at Rickenbacker airport called "The Gathering of Mustangs and Legends". tons of old pilots and even more P-51s, nearing 100 I think. Also all the other common attractions and what not, like the F-22 did a demonstration of it's vectored thrust and then all sorts of other in service aircraft and other WW2 stuff.

What gave me the inspiration to do that particular P-51C though was that I got to talk to some of the Tuskegee pilots, and decided I needed to build a tuskegee fighter.

and hey, since this thread will likely be moved to off topic anyway, show me some pics! We're all picture whores around here :D

2008, it was my birthday present last year....it was friggin amazing. I honestly can't think of a more exhilarating experience than that day.

It's actually the Collings Foundation. They fly across the country and stop at various airports in quite a few states to show off these beautiful flying pieces of history and allow people a chance to walk through them, fly in them or FLY them in the case of the P-51C Mustang. It's an amazing foundation and if they come by you (check their website) you should stop in. It's only a few bucks to look at them but its $400 and up to fly in them for 30-45 minutes. If you're into WWII and aircrafts....it's totally worth it.

I'm uploading them now I'll make a new thread or I'll post them back here when they're done.
