Dual brand.. not good, but better than stock?

Post by Pablodragon » Mon May 04, 2009 10:45 am

I'm pretty sure the Dual brand of car stereos is not very good, but my question is, is it better than stock?.. saw a box/package deal on clearance for a Dual CD/MP3 player with input for I-pod, that came with (2) 6.5 inch speakers for like 83 bucks...

worth it or not, just to get something better than stock?

..or is it just flashy looking and would invite someone to break into my car? (that's kinda why I leave the stock radio in...)

you are correct, dual is one of the lowest quality brands out there. i would imagine that the sound quality would be equal to or less than the stock system but most likely the speakers will be pure garbage.

if i had to make a suggestion i would tell you to save up a little more cash and get a better quality unit, say in the $100-150 range from brands like alpine, pioneer, kenwood, jvc, etc.

I'd stay away and get one of the big boys out there. I was given a Durabrand (Wal-Mart, gotta love it) CD player for Christmas a few years ago, it only lasted a few months before it wouldn't power up anymore.

I have a set of 6.5 duals in my front door speakers and they are awesome. They sound great and they have been installed for 1.5 years and still running strong.

I didn't know they were the lowest quality speakers lol. I just got them since they were 410 shipped on ebay. And figured why not.

But I'd definately recommend getting it. I don't know for $83 though.

you paid $410 for a set of dual brand 6.5" speakers? that's the kind of fact you want to keep to yourself mate. it equates to paying $175,000-220,000 for a brand new neon.

Affordable yet good Alpine unit

Affordable Pioneer unit with Ipod Control.

Honestly it shouldnt bad with the stock speakers.

Dual is crap. my friend bought one of theyre subs and it said 150-200 RMS and it was sounding like shit off of ~100 RMS. theyre power handling is over-rated.

also dont get the futureshop Energy brand. they told me the speakers were from the same company that made top of the line home theater systems. so me being the retard bought a set all round for my car. put them in, and ran good............FOR ABOUT 4 HRS!!!! Then the front 2 speakers blew and my rears didnt even fit the stock mounting and yes they were 6/9's. So i phoned Energy and asked them "do you guys make car audio speakers?" they replyed "no". so i went back got my money and went n bought Alpine Type S speakers....So far so good...just thought i would let u all know lol.

The money youre gonna spend on a new dual radio you could save up a little more and get a somewhat decent Alpine. Not a fan of any other raidio as I have had them all. Alpine has been my fav for years. It will wake up even your stock speakers. I may have a decent one just have to get my parts together and I will post iy up on here.
