ID these wheels?

Post by 04R/T » Sun May 10, 2009 2:41 am

I had a chance to buy this set for cheap a while back and I passed. :banghead:

They were were 16x7.5 with the right offset and bolt pattern for Neon. I know they are made by Stern, but does anyone know the model number or the name they go by? The seller called them Stern Face Beast, but I search using that name and the wheels that show up look nothing like these.

I don't know, but can our cars run 7.5 width wheels?

I couldn't find anything online, but they are good quality wheels. It looks like it might be an oem wheel, or maybe it's just discontinued. I know some oem ones have the name etched on one of the spokes like that.

Yeah, I thought they might be oem for something. Maybe a VW? They use the same bolt pattern as ours. Only thing is I don't recall seeing them on any car.

Here's an example of a VW wheel that would bolt on to a Neon:

It's 17x7 with a 38 offset and you wouldn't need hub rings, it has a 57.1 hub bore.

I bet it's one of the aftermarket wheels offered by the VW dealership. They usually have 5 or 6 different wheel models offered as oem, but supplied by different companies.

This is more of a high quality wheel since it's made by ADR, so it may be an audi wheel. You would think there would be some kind of info stamped on the wheel.

You could always email stern with the pics, they should be able to tell you something.

It's definitely German. "Stern" is the German word for "star". Maybe that will help.

Bringing this back from the dead...

I have been waiting for Summit Racing to deliver the wheels I ordered over a month ago from them. They were these silver Raceline wheels in 17x7.5. I ordered them together with new lugnuts and stems only after they showed the wheels as being available for shipment the next day. So what do the asswipes do? Yeah, they ship the lugnuts and stems only and notify me that the wheels will be ready to ship in a few days. Every few days to a week they change the ship date, this has been going on for over a month and of course they charged my card so I get to pay for them already, the latest shipping notification they send says July 3rd, screw Summit.

So I was looking at wheels again and thinking it would be cool to have something that looked OEM. Something similar to the 03/04 Stratus R/T sedan alloy wheel or 5 spoke PT Cruiser wheels. I came across these and figured what the hell. This afternoon UPS dropped off 2 boxes at my house, they contain a brand new set of these wheels, mystery of these wheels solved If anyone cares.

Besides the stern logo etc. printed on the outside of the box, they have this info on one side:

Image

The manufacturer painted this 'engrish' on them . :tardbang:

Image

They were made in Japan by Hinodex, I don't know if that's good or bad. Hinodex wheel division went bust many years ago and they sold off Stern to ADR. ADR makes Stern wheels in China.

These wheels, even though they're brand new and in their original boxes, were manufactured in 1996. The place I got these from have others, but this was the only set in 5x100. Knowing my luck, I'll probably install these, drive through a bomb crater pot hole the next day and bend them.
