hid question.

Post by contagious18 » Fri May 15, 2009 2:12 am

for those who have H.I.Ds i have two questions.
1. ur passenger ballast, how do u have it mounted? is it secured?
the reason i ask for this one is because i was driving and i started hearing a noise in my engine compartment, i pop the hood to see the ballast rubbing with the ps pulley, definitely dont want that to happen anymore.

2. (this one is for my dad) his passenger hid bulb doesnt turn on all the time, u got to play with the headlight switch so it would turn on. does he need a new bulb?

my passenger ballast is just wedged up next to the fender and whatever that stuff is over there....... its not secured in any fashion..... has not been a problem for me..

as for the bulb..... could be.. .since only 1 side is not turning on...... could also be a problem with the ballast or the wiring.. hard to narrow it down (try putting the passenger bulb into the driver side and the driver side into the passenger and see what happens)

with mine lately i was having a problem of hitting bumps and both headlights turning off.... found out that the wiring harness has bad connections to the stock headlight plug... but that was both headlights not just one...

1. I have mine screwed into the side.
2. It could be the blub. Tell him to stop cycling the lights though, its horrible for the ballasts. Try swapping the bulbs Left to Right and see if that changes anything.

same here i have mine mounted on the side by the fender.like if you know where you put windshield washer fluid its like up and left from that if your looking at the engine.my buddy with an sti had the same problem and soon both of em wouldn't come on so he ordered a whole new set and his problem is fixed.depends on the manufacture and the vehicle really.

How did you have the passenger ballast mounted in the first place?
And yes, I also mounted mines just like the rest of these guys did.

I have mine zip tied like a mofo to the frame under the hood. The passenger side sits pretty snug against one of the bottles, but I have that zip tied as well.
