the funny thing is that i was driving and i hear a loud bang. the car was still on i pulled over on the freeway and didn't see anything just hear noises coming from the engine. We get back on the freeway still had power. not 100%. I kinda knew a piston blew. 20 miles till i get home. driving 65 MPH get home turn off the car. and turn it on again. and engine didn't turn. I look under the engine and the oil pan has a big ass dent. So i knew a piston broke. I was amazed that the car was able to run with just three piston. Will post pictures in my progress tommorow night.
Motors and Trannys are so cheap on these things it's ridiculous to incur a car payment for 5 years opposed to fixing it.
Especially when you have an SRT in the garage. booyah!

My 99 has 196k miles. I've replaced pretty much the entire suspension, brakes, and a few things here and there under the hood, and she's probably about due for a 3rd timing belt. I know how you feel, but I'm thinking it needs a 2.4.

well thinking about a swap... or turbo ( damn you paperwork ) but since i'm due for a smog next year Jan 10 not going to mess up the freaking car. Work has been slow. Wife said and i Quote " If you get a 2nd job. that you at least bring in an extra 700.00 a month. Then I we can buy a SRT-4 with a credit card"
Now that's a sweet deal. She told me this awhile back when the car was still working. But no luck with a extra Job in Ca. still looking.

Oh why, WHY did I choose to read this thread
?! Now I really hate thinking about parting my car out.....
Official "I drove my Neon till it died" member #??? Parted out the '01 so that she can live on through others! (Now driving + modding my '09 Chevy HHR SS!)

well update guys. replaced Head gasket. timing belt, and pump. Only to really find out what messed up my engine was the Torque Converter.
Now what sucks it only has 6,000 miles on it. My boss rebuilt it. The Torque Converter is locked, shit starter can't move and I can't neither. Have to tow it to the shop. Then will have to take it the transmission so i can replace the Torque converter. Its under warranty from Natpro. I hope there isn't any internal damage. But 90% sure the TC was defect.
Btw its my first time taking aprt my engine..... to much work. transmission are easy less labor time

You said your boss rebuilt it ?? So this trans & torque converter has been replaced before ?
Is your torque converter a 'stock' unit, or is it 'built' with a higher stall or something ?

Also known as a Piece-o-Shit, this car has to be the worst car ever made. Although it may look cool and have a great name, this car has many defects. Everything from gaping holes in the back floor panel, to missing interior, from failing clutches, to having the clear coat applied before the paint, this car takes the cake as the worlds worst idea of a car.

Well shit, I've been through dang near everything...style wise except for AWD...FAC3L3SS wrote:^ You say that NOW
If I ever get in a bind money wise I could sell the SRT for some profit but that's probably the only way I'm getting rid of it.
I DO however want a black c5 z06 one day...but I'd keep the SRT as the DD when that day comes.
