A couple quick post-detail pics (56k take a hike)

Post by neon2ner » Mon May 18, 2009 9:50 pm

I figured for those of you who don't frequent the project log section, I'd post some quick pics of my car after I spent 5 hrs on it today. Also, I just picked up my wheels 2 weeks ago, so I'm sure lots of you haven't seen 'em yet. I have a set of Work locking nuts, in Blue, coming this week for those wheels.

anyway, on to the pics.

THE PRODUCTS:

AFTER:

THE PROCESS:

1. wash & dry the car
2. clay bar the entire car, using spray wax as lubricant/cleaner
3. post-claybar wash, to remove clay residue from car, and dry
4. buff entire car with Malco rejuvinator compound
5. wax with Malco cherry liquid paste wax
6. polish exhaust tips with Wicked metal polish
7. hand buff headlights and tail lights with Malco headlight restorer
8. use white eraser to remove wax residue from rubber mouldings and plastic surfaces
9. clean exterior glass

yeah...i was pretty tired after doing all that. just gives you an idea of what my detailing system is like...this is what i personally do for clients of mine, as well as my own car. i put this package together myself; i find it really keeps the paint protected well. i always like to use clay to strip the surface down and start from scratch, so i know the paint is protected, and no contaminants are just waxed in.

comments welcome, as always.

Your car dirty is probably about as clean as my car has ever been.

Very nice, very clean car, pun intended lol. I love that Chrysler grill, far more interesting than the Dodge one.

that is one good process you've got set up. Amazing results.

About how long does that take you on your car?
edit: n/m, just read the 5 hr part.

wow.... I'm still drooling. I had no idea that's what your car looked like. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan. Love the color matched mirrors, '03 rear, SRT bumper and wheels. It all looks great man!

Very clean indeed, love it!
As much as I hate to say it, not sure about the rims though. Remind me of hubcaps for some reason. I think it has to do with the ring going around the back of it. Just my opinion. Everything else is sexy! Great job.

Are your pictures blurry or is it just that the camera cannot capture any light on your car whatsoever due to the reflective properties your car possesses?

Freakin sweet job!

yeah, i don't expect everyone to agree with my taste in wheels. however, that ring is there for a reason. it makes the wheel more rigid, to that it flexes less, and so it doesn't bend as easy, which is practical here considering all of our potholes.

haha, thanks. although i wish i could say the gloss level is what was friggin the camera up, i just didn't have it on the proper setting giving the lighting. it was my parents camera, and i needed to take quick pics. i think i'm going to buy a SLR this summer for myself.
PhillyLS1 wrote:what pad is on that porter cable?
i was using the yellow pad on the car, because i wanted a more abrasive pad considering i had a few scratches to attend to.

a couple specs on the wheels:

Enkei NT-03+m
17x7.5
+35mm offset
Hyper Silver finish
Weight: 17 lbs

thanks for all the comments guys.

cheers.

I don't even wanna hear about potholes. Pittsburgh is #1 pothole city... they never fix them. I thought this was fitting. Poor college student's neon

Looking at your rims again I can see why you need a reinforcement ring. Skinny spokes.

nope, you're right, these wheels have 2 valve stems.

since they were designed as a race wheel, apparently one of them is able to have a tire pressure monitor installed, and one regular valve stem. this is so they can monitor tire pressure during races, or so i think i remember reading.

makes sense to me anyways. i wasn't kidding when i said these wheels are functional.

sorry i missed your post, dude.

its a long story on the hood, but here goes.

i was at school at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario for a year in 2006/2007. some idiots decided it would be funny to vandalize my hood, so they jumped on it, literally. the quotes were from $1200-1400 to replace my hood, have it painted, blend the fenders, etc...money i didn't have.

so a friend that i met had a roommate that raced, and still races, in the Rolex sports car (then called Rolex 24) series. he ended up ordering me a brand new hood for my car (JSP) and gave it to me. i expected to pay him, but he told me not to worry about it, so he basically gave me a free C/F hood. that's what being a car enthusiast is all about: he saw me upset that my ride got vandalized, he obviously put himself in my shoes, and decided to step in and help me out by hooking me up with a hood. what an awesome guy. his name is Mark Wilkins, you'll see him racing if you catch a Rolex race on Speed. he races in P2 (prototype 2) class. i'll never forget what he did for me, i'll get him back some day.

If i had the $$$ those were the rims I was looking at getting last year. Light weight, lots of spokes, and I'm a sucker for Enkei...
