srt-4 exterior conversion

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

srt-4 exterior conversion

Post by blue_sxt » Tue Sep 20, 2005 9:21 am

Maybe this is a silly question, and probably gonna get me flamed by the SRT guys, but I'm gonna ask anyways. I really like the SRT4 look, aside from the body parts, is there anything I'd need to give my car the SRT4 look. I'm planning on eventually backing it up with performance, but for now, looks are more important for me.

I've heard that everything is plug and play since my car is a '04. Is this true? Or do I need to replace the windshield washer reservoir?

Thanks for any help,
Michael

You've got it right, being an '03 and up, all parts are interchangable, but if you want the front fascia, you will need to swap washer bottles, not a big deal! You'll need front and rear fascias, side skirts and door appliques, hood and rear spoiler. You may also want some type of dual exhaust to fill out those holes in the rear. Unless you do the tucking trick, then it will look okay.

I was planning on getting the Mopar Performance cat-back dual exhaust kit. But what did you mean by the "tucking trick?"

I think I saw it on SRT forums, you pull the bumber cover between the cut-outs up towards the bottom of the trunk and zip-tie it through two holes and it gives you the whole area. so if you are running R/T or other smaller exhaust it will fit. I'll look for the linky.

There's like 12 different explanations on how to perform the rolled bumper mod over at SRTforums.com, but they're mainly all the same. It's quite simple and take about 5 minutes and $2.
srt4nate @ SRTforums.com wrote:1. lay down under the rear of the car in between the exhaust tips.
2. disconnect the 2 black plastic plugs holding the bumper in position.
3. take a zip tie and put it thru the hole where the plug was and "roll" the bumper by pulling it towards the front of the vehicle. about 9-12" from where the plug came out of you'll notice a rail with holes about every 12", use this hole to zip tie the bumper to. then repeat the zip-tying for the other side of the bumper (2 zip ties total)

Thanks for the replies, guys. Got one more question (for now, anyways), EclecticBlue mentioned door appliques, I thought to achieve the SRT look, I'd have to REMOVE my SXT molding. Did I misunderstand you?

That is correct... the door trim that you have on your car will need to be removed to get the full effect.

Also... noticed you said you thought about the Mopar Cat Back.... if you're talking about the CatBack system for the SRT... don't do it. From a performance standpoint it won't help you and it'll be loud since there isn't a muffler in the system.

Hmmm, I thought having a free breathing exhaust would help in the performance area. What about an R/T exhaust? I'd like something that doesn't look out of place on the rear valance of the SRT.

Sorry, I forgot about the rub strips, you'd need to remove them, and there are new ones, if I'm not mistaken, that attach along the bottom of the door to line up with the upper edges of the skirts near the wheel wells

Correct...

about the exhaust, you'll lose low end. You could put an R/T on, just take it to a shop and have they modify it to fit in the SRT cutouts

What would happen if I installed a stock SRT4 exhaust? Would I still lose performance-wise?

You'll lost a little bit of performance in the bottom end like Diablo0 said.
