Windshield washer wont pump, got some q's...

Post by mastershake » Mon Jun 01, 2009 9:50 am

So ole' girls windshield washer won't pump. So far i've verified there is fluid in there, and that the pump definatly runs. I disconnected the hose that goes to the nozzles on the hood to make sure they weren't clogged, and nothing came out

So i'm thinking there is obviously probably either something clogging the tank, the pump, or somewhere in the hose that goes up to the nozzles on the hood.

How easy is it to access the bottom of the resiviour. And can the pump be removed from the tank without removing the whole tank??

Thanks!!

the bottom of the reservoir is easy to get to. You don't even need to jack up the car (if you're not lowered). If you want to get at the reservoir, you'll need to take the front bumper off. This allows for quick access to the tank.

Is there a way to do it that doesn't involve removing the front bumper?? I dont' think i'll need to remove the whole tank. I think there's just junk in the pump or the line. And i wanrt to get to where the pump is to inspect it.

I asked the same question... It's impossible (unless you've got tiny girl forearms) to get to unless you take the front bumper off. Believe me, I've tried.

Although, I've never had to replace the pump. I'm not at home right now, so I don't know if it's at the bottom of the tank or not (I think it would be). If it is, you might be able to get at it by jacking it up.

Cool. Thanks!! I'll mess around with it this weekend. I'm sure there's a how-to for bumper removal here.

It can be acessed by removing the inner fender liner. And the air dam under the bumper if needed. I have removed/installed without removing the bumper. The harest part is remembering how the f*ck you twist and turned it getting it out, to get it back in.

The pump part will pull out of the bottom. Just remove the hose first to drain it, unless you want an alcohol bath.

PS fluid is flammable. It even says so in small, unnoticable print on the jug.

Waa? Iv got at mine with the splash shield in there. Just pull off the line that comes off the motor then twist and pull the assembly out. if there is fluid in the res expect it all to come out in like 3 seconds. as for the problem your experiencing I cant guess except for a blocked port.

Sorry, meant P. S. (Post Scritum)

As in P.S. the washer solvent is flammable. My bad. :D

Indeed, I removed mine without removing the fascia. I don't think I removed the fender liner either. Haven't had mine in for 3+ years so it's hard to remember.

Oh and  about the PS thing.

Ok, so i took a look under there yesterday while changing the belts. Apparently the previous owner hit a curb or what not and pushed the metal bracket (or whatever it is) into the washer tank enough to put a crack in it. I realized this when i had my gf dump fluid in there and it ran out all over the place. So at least my pump is good!! lol
The piece of metal is pretty sturdy, so i don't see being able to bend it back without some serious tools. So my plan is to get a good look at the crack, and if possible JBweld or epoxy the outside of the tank.

Loctite plastic weld. JB may be too rigid, and crack.
