well i think the neon will be going bye bye soon...
hey people i think i am going to be selling the neon in the very near future and buying a 2004/2005 BMW 325i sedan,i am getting tired of the neon and i want more power, more comfort, more style, etc.and having test driven a few bimmers over the last few weeks i am falling hard for them, and i have found a 04 with 48k miles on it,5 spd, power everything you can think of clean carfax report, and all maintance records for 14,995. what do you guys think?? a good upgrade?? i am dreaming of throwing some air ride on one with low offset wheels and and some stretched tires, oooohhh my god it sounds tasty

agree with all the above mentioned FAILs.....
so many neon owners here are so whimsical and spur of the moment with these rash decisions. what happened to bagging this thing over the stones with an '02 front end conversion?
I smell gayyyy emanating from this thread

With the neon, you'll get sympathy points from the judge.
In the end, it's your $/decision. As you can tell, we hate to see a neon go, but life moves on.

I agree with everyone else. BMW will drain your wallet, maintenance or mods, either way. Go look up an exhaust for that car from a reputable company. You're looking at as much as $4-500 for an AXLE BACK system, and well over $600+ for a catback. I just googled a header for one and it was over $1000. Yikes.
Unless you got a lot of money in the bank, I'd recommend riding the Neon out and spending your money making it better than the Bimmer (which isn't very hard).

There are very nice cars. The maintenance on all German cars is pricey, but if you do it yourself it saves a TON of money.
If you aren't planning on modding it then go ahead. German = expensive its just how it goes. Doesn't matter if its an Audi, VW, MB or a BMW, they are all pricey.

Seems like you could spend $15K on something worse. If you want $15K semi-luxo, go with a G35. It's what most people do in your situation. Reliable, easy to upkeep, easy to mod, fun, fast-ish and available with 2 and 4 doors. Just don't rice it out. Either that or an 04-ish TL would do the trick. FWD though. The G35 is RWD or AWD if you go with the G35x sedan. Hell, a Lincoln LS is in that range as well. Maybe even a CTS with some miles and not a whole lot of top end options.
I'd keep shopping. German cars out of warranty are terrible unless you know them front to back. Don't buy a car for the logo on the hood.
Personally, if I had $15K to do whatever with. 1999-ish Lexus GS300/400 (whichever I find in the best condition...v6 or v8, I could care less) for about $9-10K, a good lip kit, some 18's on basic coilovers, some polish here and there, a little refresh where needed and rock it until the wheels fall off. A well maintained 10 year old Lexus is just as reliable as a brand new Mercedes. Hell, if I could LS400 with some wheels and a drop in that range would be baller-iffic. An LS is most assuradly a dealer maintained car so you know it will be near perfect and in that price range, why argue? It's not "fast" or all that much fun to drive but it will be a great cruiser and family friendly which is what I need.

i am okay with the repairs, i just want something different.i have liked bimmers since i was a kid so its just natural for me to wanna go german with my next car,and i dont wanna go vw or audi,i was looking at a saab 93 and they are pretty nice. oh and i still love my neon, just hate the way it feels sometimes, like it is fragile if yu know what i mean,oh and no way the wife is getting it in a divorce,no way
oh and the price of mods does not scare me,i am looking at putting 5k into the neon if i keep it within the next year, with the bimmer it would be a 3k set of wheels and a 2k set of coils,so either way i am fucked lol

Go for it.
You can throw body kits on, paint interiors, put mad tight altezza tails yadda yadda yadda but it will always be a neon on a cranky, harsh suspension/econo car. Upgrade. It's just a better car.
If you can afford yourself something nice do it. It's not like there aren't 4,000 neons out there you can get cheap if you want to get back into the hobby.

If I could sell my neon and upgrade, I wouldn't even have to think about it. You will be much happier with the BMW.

if your looking at saab 9-3s...look at the viggen ones. Luxury and its somewhat fast. and not as expensive to mod as a beamer.theTeejmiester wrote:i am okay with the repairs, i just want something different.i have liked bimmers since i was a kid so its just natural for me to wanna go german with my next car,and i dont wanna go vw or audi,i was looking at a saab 93 and they are pretty nice. oh and i still love my neon, just hate the way it feels sometimes, like it is fragile if yu know what i mean,oh and no way the wife is getting it in a divorce,no wayoh and the price of mods does not scare me,i am looking at putting 5k into the neon if i keep it within the next year, with the bimmer it would be a 3k set of wheels and a 2k set of coils,so either way i am fucked lol
