Lambo Doors

Does anyone have any detailed pictures of any Lambo Door kit for a Neon? Anyone have a kit installed and can take pictures?

Here's the thing: I work with a guy that builds custom choppers, etc. and he was talking to me about how he built a custom Chevy S-10 for his son with a small block V8 with a 4 speed manual tranny, yadda yadda, etc... Well, we got into talking about suicide doors and I asked him about Lambo Doors... We were talking about how they worked and to make a long story short, he'd be willing to fabricate a Lambo door kit and consider selling them at a discounted rate in comparison to the $1000 retail price tag. So, I was looking for pictures of a Neon's Lambo door hinge and can't find one. (Obviously because manufacturers are afraid of people doing this exact thing)

Can anybody help? NeonJoe? XenonNeon?

We could possibly get some Lambo door kits made pretty cheap. Thanks!

Ive tryed and no one gave pics or dims...im a drafter so i can get the drawing made up in a few minutes given input from dims and pictures.

I could have sworn that someone over at SRTforums.com had a picture of their hinges posted, but now I can't seem to find them. Maybe I'll go check over at the other .org.

Thanks man. I finally found one (the one you posted first) and a couple other universal kits just to give the guy an idea on how they work. I'll show him the pictures tonight at work and I'll let you guys know what he says. Thanks again.

Alright, I gave the Dan (the custom bike builder guy) some pictures of the hinges and it's a go. He's going to give the pictures to his son which is currently going to school for AutoCAD, etc... And he's going to let him play with it and see if he can come up with some blueprints and layout the hinges. They'll be able to fabricate them from there. They have a scrap Chevy S-10 that they're going to be building the concept hinges for and he said once he gets the hinges correct, he'll work on the different mounting styles so they can be used on various makes and models. He's going to let me know as soon as they're ready to try the 2GN Neon and I'll be donating my car as a guinea pig.

The kits will be significantly cheaper than what the kits on the 'Net go for. We also discovered that the most expensive part is actually the shock that opens the door... They run around $150 per shock and that's wholesale price. (For a 750lb load shock, overrated of course for safety and which is what shock comes with on the higher end Lambo door kits)

I'll keep you guys posted with the news as I get it.

Ya ive been doing AutoCAD for the better part of 4-5 years. ill give it a whirl and post a pic later. if i get my copy of Solidworks up by then ill post 3D pics

sweet, could you ask him if he could do some hinges for a 2001 Celica?

Maybe if you can come up with some blueprints, you can share what you have and we could compare the drawings with the one's we're working on.

Yeah, I'll put an '01 Celica on the list. He said that if he can get them laid out and the concepts cut out and all fabricated correctly, it shouldn't be too far from there to get some other make/models made.

Yeah, it's kinda' early but a rough guesstimate would probably be around $600 per kit. Nothing is etched in stone, yet...

that price is about what I ball parked, considering the shocks alone are $300..
If you market this for that cheap, you will piss off the manufacturers that sell it for $1000-$1500....

Its such a simple design.....

is it just me or is everyone jumping on the bandwagon.... seems like before alot of people were saying "lambo doors don't look good on a four door", "everyone is getting lambo doors", "not just my style"..... am i right on this or was i reading posts from another forum?

Yeah, the whole point is that they're simply not worth over $1,000. And we're hopefully going to prove that you can have a high-quality, long lasting kit for less than that. The same thing the others make, but we're not trying to make that large of a profit.

You get a lot of responses like that everywhere you go. Everyone has their opinions.

Even though my car's not a super-wild show car, I think it'd still be neat to sport a set of these for at least a little while until I got tired of smacking my head on my door.

lol...ya know I have yet to hit my head on the door..knock on wood...but yea I get the same questions asked all the time to me..I cant wait for next year to roll around and hear what everyone has to ask me after being put away during the winter to work on her.

Lambos are definately fun and definately an eye catcher, all I heard when I went to a meet here in CT that had a bunch of srt4's was holy sh!t, cause no one here has them on a neon or srt4...and Ive noticed myself more and more people getting them, but what can ya do...either way enjoy them if you get them

alot of my friends have them. a focus 4dr, civic, 2 accords. and alot of other local ppl have them. i liked them 2 years ago when they were 'rare' but now that its getting easier and easier for everyone to get them, im honestly a bit tired of them. they look good, but im used to seeing it now.

im always afraid im going to scratch something up trying to close it, and i never know how to close the door, like pull it down enough. i dunno, just my 2cents i suppose.

eah, I was thinking about trying the suicide look, myself because the guy that's fabricating this kit has been making suicide doors for some time and offered me a set... The tricky part will be re-running wires for everything that's power in the doors... The hinges are cake.

I'll have to talk to Dan at work to see if he came up with anything... I know he and his son were busy building a bike - and I transferred to a different department at work, but I almost forgot about these.

I'll get some more info and post it tomorrow or Tuesday... Whenever I get a chance to talk to him.

wo0ot! Update!

Talked to Dan then other day and his son finally got some time to lay them all out and draw them up in CAD. He told me that they'll begin fabricating the hinge assembly by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. Their first vehicle is going to be the S-10 mentioned in the original post and the 2nd vehicle will be well... Let's just say my car might be in the shop for a day or two in the next few weeks.

After he gets the fitment on my car and any bugs worked out, he'll be building more the kits for the Neon. He's not sure on the price, yet, because he hasn't started fabricating, but as soon as he gives me a ballpark figure - You guys will be the first to know.

Yeah, sorry it's taken forever, but I guess you can't rush these things. Up until last week, he's been working on 3 custom built bikes and his son's S-10 project... Which is sweet BTW - I'll post some pics as soon as he gives me some. It's like a '88 S-10, 5/6" drop, two-tone (orange and black), big ass V8 and a 4 speed manual tranny. The thing is just evil.

The hinges have been fabricated. I was checking them out last night since he brought them to work... At this point, they're quite ugly, but that's normal for a prototype custom machine part and he's only spent a total of about 20 hours machine time working on them.

They're a little larger than the lambo door hinges out there right now, but I'm assuming as he gets them all fitted and adjusted correctly, they'll start looking a lot better. He's going to be test fitting them and installing them on his S-10 this weekend, so by Monday night, I should have another update on how they turned out. He's also throwing the idea around of making the hinges motorized so the doors will raise by the push of a remote button (and the doors can/will be shaved) or by a hidden flush mount button in the door jamb if you want to keep your stock door handles. He said that after he gets this set figured out for the S-10, he'll then bring my car into his shop and have the hinges installed. We'll then work out any bugs with the Neon and he'll start producing more sets which will then become available to the public.

I'll update you guys again soon and I'll try to get some pictures of them installed on the S-10 when he gets that figured out.

Edit: How much time is involved with removing the front quarter panels on the '03+'s?

if by querter panel you mean the fenders... i'd say about 30 mins max. the hardest part is getting to the 3 nuts that hold the bumper and fender together... then you have the top bolts... and a couple by the door/splash guard.

lambo doors arent bad, id rock some.... butr id rather suicide teh rear doors, make it look like an old school continental
