Rear door latch wont close/stay shut.

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

Rear door latch wont close/stay shut.

Post by deep1ca » Thu Jun 04, 2009 3:51 pm

My drivers side rear door wont stay shut.

It was working fine, i unlocked the door from the inside, opened the door...10 seconds later i tried to close it and nothing. The door fully closes but the latch wont hold it shut.

Is the latch busted? Can I replace it myself? Part number?

Right now I have bungee cables holding the door closed.

Start first by comparing the broken side with the good side... see anything different.

Then try a little oil on the moving parts.

Junk yard... they are there for this kind of part that a dealership will charge you the big bucks for.

There is one up in Arnprior, other south on Richmond Rd and another out in the east somewhere.

You seem to have a lot of issues with your Neon... odd ones too.

You can try greasing up the latch in the shell of the door, but if that doesn't work you will have to replace it.

Factory part numbers are:
Manual Locks
00-02L : 4783541AB

Power Locks
00-02L: 4783595AB

The prices in here are probably wrong since the book is a bit old, you can PM Danteneon for a more accurate price but they should be around $60-70 brand new.

Hold the door handle
Put your finger in the latch
See if you can move it

if you have to replace it, its quite easy to do. the longest and hardest part is probably taking off the door panel ;)
