00 auto to Mtx swap
00 auto to Mtx swap
Ok so i totalled my 00 es mtx and i am buying another 00 es auto with the plans on swapping trannies to make my new neon a 5 spd. What all do i need from my mtx car to make this swap happen? i bought back my old car so I have everything form my mtx car car at my disposal to make this swap happen. i will be putting in a new clutch when I do this swap as well. i don't plan on doing any power mods to the engine so i will just be running a stock setup for my daily driver. Thanks for all the help in advance.

Trans, shifter cables, shifter, pedals, clutch cable, passenger side CV, patience to do it right.

ok so i just removed the trans, clutch cables, shifter assemble, shifter cables etc.. from my donor car. Question is do I need to swap my ecm for this to work and what about my trans output speed sensor, reverse switch, & clutch switch what will I need to do to make these compatible? Will I need the throttle body from the donor car as well? both cars have skim keys if that makes any difference. Thanks for any help in advance.

I would swap over everything I could. The PCM in the MTX will rev higher. The TB's should be the same, as the kickdown just wont be used. Engine bay harness so the trans connectors match, etc. You have it, use it. Now if you do switch PCMs, you will need to also swap all the lock cylinders for conveinience, or just swap the ign and carry two keys, and hope the transponder doesn't get confused/or cut a plain key for the doors/Or a new key programmed, cut for doors on one side, and the ign on the other.
I would just swap out the locks myself, since they are available.

i don't plan on swapping pcm's b/c this is a daily driver and i never rev that high anyway. Will i need to add the harness for the clutch switch as well so it will start and for my cruise to work properly? As for the engine wiring harness its kind of messed up from the accident and someone decided to steal my battery without disconnecting it so they ripped a bunch of wires out of the power distribution box to get it out.

The cruise control should work fine without the clutch switch, it just won't disengage when you push the clutch in. Once you touch the brake it will disengage like normal, but if you push in the clutch it might just rev up. I disengaged the clutch switch on my old avenger and that's how mine reacted.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to do something with the firewall on the 00 to swap to manual? Or is that for an srt swap? I forget.

The PCM should kick out the speed control, if the rpms rise too fast, or to high. So there should be no worry of bouncing off the rev limiter. This is primarily to detect poor road conditions, so in theory it could kick out if the engine had enough power to resume speed at 10 mph per second. Basically it does, but the speed control doesn't get that aggressive.
Not like the old 70's speed control. After dropping a built 383 into the Cordoba, it was always fun to hit "resume" leaving town.

True, but I have also read that ppl just tie the solenoid up out of the way. Not sure if it is what I would do.

If the MTX car has SKIM, then you would need all the parts swapped into the ATX car, if you want it to work. If they both have SKIM, you could just remove the TC solenoid, if it has it in '00. And plug it into the connector. It shouldn't throw a CEL. Possibly a resistor of the same value of the solenoid coil will work also. Either way, the parts from the SKIM must stay with the car they came from to work, without needing flashed.
