Rear window kit?

Post by TheRandom1 » Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:32 pm

I know there are a bunch of old posts about JLM motorsports making a rear power window kit for our cars, but they have apparently gone out of business or something.

Does anybody know where to get this kit now? I want to get that and a cruise control kit in the near future.

I have no idea, but I remember someone modified switches from a jeep for the front. I'd love to at least have power switches for the rear windows in the front. Maybe I'd open the rear windows then. I've never had them open since I've owned the car.

I looked into it a while ago. I sent a PM to the guy on the org, but never received a response. The sight was down last I knew.

It will probably be difficult to get a hole of one.

Ryan, he did take one from a 98 Cherokee, but his photobucket is down or whatever, so I can't get the pics. He was on srtforums, found the thread and all, but that's it. Only switches, no kit. His kit came from JLM it seems.

Frank, I looked and JLM still seems to be down/out of business or something.

http://www.slickcar.com/power-window-kit.asp

i got this kit for my front windows and it worked fine... i imagine it would be easier for the rear because it doesnt have the pockets... but the switches would have to be worked in somewhere... i have mine for the front on the center console... but to make them look factory would be a task...

So on the rear doors the crank still pokes out of the door panel?

Hmm, and 135 for the set isn't bad... would just have to find a different place for those switches, not a big fan.

ya i thought it was pretty good.. but ya the switches was a place i wanted to do it but they have different kits available so u can mount them different places. like factory too with two on the drivers side and one on the passenger. and illuminated ones too. i like them there. but if i had factory fronts i wouldnt have done it there..

Hey sorry i didnt chime in earlier.

This is a SPAL kit if Im not mistaken. I have installedand used them for years and am putting a set in my car. They are an awesome kit. I am mounting the switches behind the rear console so that if I even do have passengers they have access to them.

They basically work by turning the stock crank with a little motor as you see pictured above. You put a cover over the hole where the handle used to be and it blends in nicely. Kind of a pain to install and time consuming but worth it.

If anyone "local" wants a set installed let me know. I would be more than happy to help.

I can see if i can find some old pics. They basically fill in the hole and cover the gearing mechanism where the stock handle would be. They are black and plastic. im sure someone else can chime in with more.

that is actually my front doors. so i can take a pic of the door on it and all..

and as far as the wiring goes it came with a kit to wire it up.. it was kinda simple.. i think routing the wires through the door grommet things was the hardest part.. but it wasnt too bad. i wired it from the radio power cuz i know that is a 12v switched. then a ground and runnin through the doors and center console..

heres a link to a kit i got off someone else a long time ago, it looks oem for the most part. Functions similar to the above mentioned kit. The pods would then cover the crank hole, the extra switches go up front.

they had a ton of different sized inserts.. it was really aa universal kit and it could have fit any way. no two would be installed the same.. but as you can see it can mount many diff ways.
