He went to to his station. came back

Cop " i'm giving you a fix it ticket )

Cop "your headlights are illegal"

Me "go find your supervisor. because i'm not signing not ticket"
Cop " don't get an attitude with me "
a other cop showed up

Cop#2 goes in front of my car looks at my headlights see's the DOT stamp comes back and
Cop#2 " i'll take car of this"
Cop #1 leaves
Cop #2 "sorry about that we have many new officers" and I always see you around even at 2 am in the morning and i just know you like to drive around,"

Because it would have been such a big deal for you to answer that question. You get what you give out.

I agree with Philly on this one. Sounds like you had an attitude almost from the get-go, so yes it's likely your fault he was messing with you.

Besides, you didn't get a ticket, so who the hell cares?

:withstupid: I really don't see the problem. People make mistakes; even police. Just be glad that the other officer corrected the mistake and sent you on your way.

i hate that ?....where you coming from, where you going? It's really none of your business. If i did something wrong give me my ticket and let me go on my way.

but i'm always nice with cops though. They in return usually are the same back. (Most cases lol)

Just a tip, cops are suspicious of everything, they almost have to be nowadays... they ask those questions to trip you up and see if you're legit.

Yea, seems like you were the dick in this situation.

Would it have been to say "Just dropped my wife off at work and I am going home"

He probably wouldn't of been an ass then.

Unfortunately, your response was less than favorable in this situation.

Sometimes you just need to play along to not have problems. There is a reason for the questions.

The correct answer above would have been a factual answer to his "why" question.

Once I was stopped at a DUI checkpoint. It went like this:

Cop: "Where are you coming from Sir?"

Me: "I just parked my semi back at the yard after driving up from New York."

Cop: "Where are you going now?"

Me: "Headed back to my home in Ottawa after 3 weeks on the road."

Cop: "Thank you Sir... be safe driving tonight"

Me: "Thank you Officer."

/the end.

I remember this time on Christmas Eve where we were going out of town for some family party. So we got "lost" in the other city because the street names were different than GoogleMaps ones.

Eventually we saw a cop parked on the side of the road so we stopped to ask our way. My mother got out of the car, walked up to his car and asked him where "Insertname" street was. And the cop asked her why she wanted to know that.

You can be suspicious but man, she was only asking where the street was.

You could always use that to drop in a good line as some have said a few posts up.

I usually tell the cop when they ask me that, that I am coming from my friends house (his dad is a well-known lawyer in the area). Name dropping can do wonders. It's gotten me out of a few tickets.

Damn straight it can. When I was younger, 16 or 17, I got clocked doing 75 and 80 in a 50. Ended up dropping a name of my boss who was in the academy at the time. Got a written warning.

It's to help determine what's going on. The more you talk, the more they have a chance to smell your breath, listen for speech impediments, etc. Just answer the question and be on your way if you know you haven't done anything wrong. Jesus Christ.

^ So its a way to catch people who may not have obviously doing anything wrong in doing something wrong?

How is it okay to stop a guy because of his headlights and then do everything in your power to get him for something else?

Lets say he has a speach impediment why is that any of your fucking business? Does the way he talks affect the way he drives?

Actually he was stopped at a check point... lots of towns do them.

We have insurance checks all the time here.

You're looking way too far into it... he's not looking for someone with a speach impediment to make fun of. He is looking for someone who is slurring their speach....obviously intoxicated.

Is it so hard to answer the one or two questions and be on your way?

If you get pulled over, the cop should already "know what's going on". I don't have problems answering ?'s, and i always cooperate. I just hate the ?, and think it usually has nothing to do with anything. Instead of coming up to a car probing to find something to pin on someone, why not just make it simple, and fast. Both party's leave happy. (i know it doesn't happen in every situation)

People cry until a cop doesn't ask a guy a series of questions after he just got finished killing someone.

Police know their area. They are asking you questions for a reason. IE why is a rich kid in a poor neighborhood? It's not a class issue, it's that rich kids come to the ghetto to buy drugs.

These police are providing you a civic duty. Just answer a few questions. Be polite. Want to argue? Go to their supervisor or a Judge.

Hi.... officers #1 priority is his/her safety....

Simple questions will tell you a lot about the situation...They do not know you, you could be a type A personality or a person with a BOLO... You just don't know and you never assume..

DUI check point they clearly want to make sure you are not driving intoxicated..as some have stated

So its a way to catch people who may not have obviously doing anything wrong in doing something wrong?

How is it okay to stop a guy because of his headlights and then do everything in your power to get him for something else?
...reread this and understand that it's a worthless statement...

basically you just said that if you were speeding and had two deployed air bags and some front end damage. the officer should just write you for speeding and not ask about the damage or airbags?

The bottom line... if you and your vehicle are not in violation of any laws then you have nothing to be concerned about.

I think some of you protest too much for nothing. :D

totally agree. smalltalk helps the police to see the situation. if i ask "how are you" and the answer is "hey i'm in a hurry don't steal my time" or something like that - it makes me think "stop - there's something wrong. he will force you to hurry, to not control him correct. he's hiding something".
If a driver is aggressive to the cops - the cop has to find the reason.
A nervous / aggressiv driver pushes the "SUSPICIOUS signal" for the cop into a very high level.

I don't know how to translate the saying "Wie man in den Wald hineinruft, so schallt es hinaus!" but it is something like "how you yell into the woods - so will the echo come back...".
