02 to 03+ bumper swap

Post by vielecustoms » Fri Jun 19, 2009 10:00 am

I have a 02 sxt and planning on taking the body kit off, I am thinking about going with the 03+ bumper and headlights. do I need the bumper support for the 03+ and being a 02 I know the hood is going to overhang the bumper, but will it interfere with it closeing / latching properly?

all you need is the bumper and headlights... no need for anything else. hoods are exactly the same. you only have an overhang with the srt hood.

and if you do decide to get rid of the kit, let me know. i would love to take that off your hands :)

 I am probally going to hang on to it for a lil bit incase I decide I don't like the stock look.... I am trying to make the car a little more capable to go places I love the way it looks but It really sucks in the winter or if I want to take it any place with a hill or up a dirt driveway like to my parents place. and I get a lot of strange looks when I strap a kayak to the roof

I think you will get those looks even with a bone stock neon.

But it's not quite as bad as the guy with it strapped to his back, riding a bicycle. I have seen that.

I have no problems with extending wires and such I'm thinking my biggest problem will be getting the top headlight bolts out seince the previous owner broke them off nice and flush with the support :beatstick:

I had the same prob. I used a bolt extractor set from sears and it took them out fine. Just spray break-a-way on it days before to loosen it up

Just a question since I'm going the opposite route (I'm going from my '05 front end to an '02 front end. All I need is the bumper, got the headlights and fogs): you need the pieces for the front end swap?

And yes, you will only need the bumper.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

WD-40 or goo gone will usually take it off. Just need a little elbow grease too. Just be careful to keep any dirt out of the mix, or it might look like you sanded it off.

If that was intended for me, I wasn't askin a question on what I would need... the question was if he needs the parts. Cause I'll have a bumper, black housing headlights, 6000K HIDs, whole grille assembly, custom Mopar "M" badge, side markers, front Mopar Lip piece... everything... lol.

Just to clarify Dante

pm'd

I got some stuff called Krud Kutter ($4 walmart) worked great on all but the really stuck crap. I found some holes under where the skirts were (neon lights?) but not a big deal seince I am going to be doing some body work to get rid of some rust on the rear wheel arch.
I am trying to bum my sister in the UK to send me some export tails, so we'll see how that goes
I like the clean look of JDM cars but seice there is nothing like that for the neon (other than export) I am thinking of doing something like that, clean, simple yet subtle diffrences from stock
