Good pics of ported Magnum or SOHC heads?
Good pics of ported Magnum or SOHC heads?
Anybody refer me to a post or site containing good pics of ported SOHC or Magnum SOHC heads?
Found a few posts from searching, but some of the pics are old and have been removed. Any suggestions or direction would be appreciated, thanks.

what tool was used on the exhaust bowls?
03blackrt: what tool was used on the exhaust bowls in the pics?
Have you ever gone through on a SOHC head in the exhaust bowl area? Wondering how thick that back and side wall are in that area?
BTW: that a T3 lotus head in the later pic?

Re: what tool was used on the exhaust bowls?
I used a large sanding drum to get the nice sweeping curves and nice blending into the stock port. I find that smaller bits create a choppy, wavey shape unless you're really good.daver wrote:03blackrt: what tool was used on the exhaust bowls in the pics?
Tools used...

A light cut with a carbid bit is required to make rom for the sanding drum...

There should be enough material to come straight down (parallel to the inside face for the vale seat) from the inside diameter of the valve seat. Althought ideally this arae will tapper inwards toward the valve stem (like the stock port).daver wrote: Have you ever gone through on a SOHC head in the exhaust bowl area? sanding drum.. good idea.
Ahh larger diameter sanding drum. On my test head I was using a ~ 3/4" round stone to keep the back wall uniform. It wasn't quite large enough to completely take out the step in the back wall just below the seat. Wasn't sure that there was enough material to completely take that out, but apparently there is.
Yeah the small bits can be hard to keep things smooth. Light pressure and moving quickly helps, as does using a sanding roll or stone afterwards.
I've done all my past work with 1/8" shank bits and various dremels, but I should probably step up to a 1/4" shank tool at some point. Maybe this would be a good opportunity. I could probably practice with it on the scrap standard SOHC head before I tackle the magnum head.
