You can get whatever one you want. As long as it's running 3.0, you get that feature.

The 3GS is nice and all if you want to spend the money but if you wanna be cheap, the 3G is not a technilogicaly advanced, but it will do everything the 3GS will do, just a bit slower. Other than that, it's basically the same.

kindly direct me to some info on how to use video on a gen1? i'm running 3.0 and have no options for video.

You have to jailbreak the phone to use the video taking feature with a program like QIK or similar.

Otherwise you have to wait for 3GS for standard video features.
