air leak ?

Post by evilneon02 » Fri Jul 03, 2009 12:48 pm

ok i have an 02 sxt and just cleaned my tb with simple green about 1 mo ago. everything was fine untill 3 days ago when my car started to idle high and when i push the clutch in it goes up to 2,000 rpm while rolling down the road. i have checked all the hose clamps, one was loose so i replaced it. checked the catch can and sealed the threads on it. uninstalled the cai and reinstalled it. and checked the brake boost line as good as i can. so my question is is the any hoses im missing and where are the rest of the hose to check? thanks for the help.

could there be a leak point direct on the throttle body? mine always makes "psssss" sound like a turbo. and i suspect some leak on the throttle body and the hose to the intake manifold...

There is also a vacuum line just below the IAC, that runs to the purge solenoid behind the battery, check all the rubber connectors on that line. It is a plastic line that snakes around where the air box used to be, and around the battery.

As Erick said the IAC may be stuck. The simple green might have gotten in there, and corroded the plunger/seat. I would romove the two screws and give it a look.

Like I suggested in another thread, remove the IAC, and put some heavy shipping tape over the holes and bolt it back on. If the car idles/or stalls, you know it is the IAC. This basically blocks the air bypass, so the IAC is "eliminated" from the circuit. Just don't try to to some heavy down shifting, or the vacuum may pull the tape through. Like I said heavy shipping tape.

do you think some layers of shrink wrap work. and would i put it on the iac side or the tb side?

Edit:
ok never mind that message i found some tape and i put two layers on the iac and started it at first it dropped to 500 rpms and slowly stratred to climb to 600 then 700. so this means it the iac that is bad right?
