Unhappy with my setup...Tokicos and Pros

Post by latief » Sun Jul 05, 2009 11:38 pm

I've been running my Tokicos and Eibach pros for a couple of months now....I am tired of the ride harshness especially up front. the Eibach website has no info on the spring rates for the pro kit, but one thing is for sure that they are stiff as hell up-front, and with the combo of 17 inch wheels and 40 series tires, every single bump in the road sends some serious vibration into the car....i don't think there is a lot of suspension travel up front due to the stiffness of the springs...

maybe i should go with some springs that have less stiffness. any ideas? Tien-H maybe or H&Rs?

feedback is welcome...

thanks,

I think both of those springs have higher spring rates. I wouldn't want to go too soft. I bottom my struts out a lot.. It's not fun. I'd rather have stiffer springs. If the ride is that harsh check your tire pressure. I had mine at 40 up front and I'd feel every joint in the pavement. I dropped them back down to 35, problem solved.

I think that the tien-H are 170 front, 150 rear (from there website).....

I have yet to find any info on the spring rates for the Eibach - Pros, but i read somewhere that the fronts are 200ish, whereas the rears are in the 170 range.....

I cannot figure out how high the H&R spring rates are....

I'm been running on Tokico blues with H&R sports springs now for about a year. I love this set-up. I am using 17" rims and 40 series tires too, and have found that the ride is most favorable. It's only a tad bit more rough over stock, but the handling is far superior over stock. I'm not sure what kind of drop you're used to or are looking for, as I've only dropped down about 1.5 over factory.

Just my .02, but I would recommend this to anyone.

Latief, do you have the standard sways, or have they been upgraded? I had the SRT on the front, but it made the ride way too stiff with the drop. I ended up just putting the SE one back on. I loved the way it handled, but it was just too much for my old butt.

I have the Pro Kit and Tokico Blues

IDK if it makes a difference, but don't you have the SRT struts?

I also just upgraded to 16" wheels, and 205/50 tires. (From 14" 185/65) It actually rides better. I would have thought losing 2" of sidewall would have made the ride worse. :tardbang:

The pro kits are possibly the softest spring set out there, aside from stockers. If you can't handle them, perhaps a lowered car isn't for you? For reference, stock springs are 140F/110R, linear.

Someone remind me to get some spring rate info into the FAQ section (don't have time right now).

eibach prokits being harsh???

no..... lol

they are soft.

i dunno what your looking for as drop wise but the tein-s-techs are the strongest spring rate available IIRC.

Thanks for feedback guys......

I am happy with the drop, and the car drives relatively good. but I am unhappy with how every single bump in the street could be felt in the car....I think it is more my 205 40 17 tires than anything else since these provide no cushioning what so ever .........there is simply not enough tire on those rims.....

see my thread at page 3 for pictures ....

Thanks OB for the specs on the springs, that is valuable info, although i don't think the front rates are accurate as described, because i compared the stock springs and eibachs prior to installation and there was significant difference. (at least trying to compress them manually). besides, Eibach have their specs all wrong on their website...... the same kit is supposed to lower the SRT more than the neon....that is a joke !

Occasional. Yes, i used to have the srt struts with setup (see my thread^^), but i ran them only for 2 weeks since the car did not get that lower, and i preferred the idea of new struts as opposed to used parts. my sways are stock sways...not SRT sways....
