swappin stuff

Post by w0158981 » Thu Jul 09, 2009 6:20 pm

ok so i have a 2000 neon atx

now i pretty much have access to a 2001 r/t i believe thats just being parted out,

now all thats really left performance wise is:

intake manifold
complete head
pcm
tach

yes the 5 speedswap is gone

so i'm wondering if i get all of that will the pcm work on an atx?

On a 3 speed ATX, yes. BUT you will have to do some wiring changes, as the IAC will not function. '00 is a stepper motor and '01 up is a solenoid type. IIRC there are some other changes. The easiest would be to swap the whole harness/PDC so you have the wiring for the PCM/mag IM the '01 TB would be nice too, so the IAC works. There may be some other little issues between the '00 and '01/02 wiring harnesses. I think if you can just swap the engine bay harness, you will have most of the bugs worked out.

But don't hold me to it. IDK if this particular type of swap has been done.

Most ppl would just install the IM/WOT and RPM switches. But if you can get the whole setup why not?

Im not sure on the cluster wiring, so the harness may need swapped there too.
EDIT: I believe they use the same connector, so it might be plug and play.
Also most R/T's had SKIM, so that could be the killer right there with the PCM.

If you know if the key is tan it has skim. You would have to basically swap the whole car harness and it should run. If your '00 has skim, you may be able to swap the modules, but the key would need programmed for the new SKIM.

So yes the ATX will work, but it is the least of your hurdles.

Mine has a SKIM communication code, but it does not keep it from starting. If nothing else, get the PCM/wiring and sell it here, if you can't/don't want to use it.

Without the wire harnesses, prolly a huge pain. You would need to figure out how to wire the SKIM. The communication shouldn't be a problem, since you just need to tie into the PCI bus, but getting the power/other stuff could be a nightmare. Plus the pin outs are not the same for '00/'01 PCM's

If the harnesses are available, then it is just a matter of swapping them out. There are some differences in the HVAC stuff, but you may be able to splice something there. That would be cake compared the the PCM/MTV/SKIM wiring.

Edit: If you could flatbed/buy the whole car it would be great.

the car is rather far away, but the deal is right and i only want to make one trip for the stuff so i'm tryin to figure out what i need to ask for to just swap it into my car.

so far i know i'm gettin the
intake manifold and head and tach

but the pcm made me interested as it woud help the butterflies and it probably a little more aggressive then minenow.

As for the PCM:

The biggest benefit, other than controlling the MTV butterflies, (only if the wiring is there) is the ability to actually get some use out of premium fuel.

I have the R/T PCM, but my harness is SE, so even if I did have a R/T IM it still won't operate the MTV without somehow installing the pin connectors into my harness, and running wires to the PDC/relay/ and out to the IM.

Being the differences are greater with the '00, if you have the time to strip the harnesses from the donor car, it is the only way it is going to be remotely worth the power gain. There is some, but it is not a huge amount. Mostly above 4900 rpm.
