guys need help bad!!

Post by evilneon02 » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:09 pm

ok i have had trouble with my ride in the past week or two. now it is really bad ive got 5 codes and dont know why. my brother ways trying to install a alarm this past weekend and now i got the codes

P1685 Skim Invalid Key The engine controller has received an invalid key from the SKIM.

P1684 Battery Disconnected in the last 50 Starts The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts

P0123(M) Throttle Position Sensor Voltage Throttle position sensor input above the maximum High acceptable voltage

P0456 Evap Leak Monitor Small (0.020) Leak Detected A small leak has been detected in the evaporative system

P0508 Idle air contol motor circuit input below acceptable current.

the one im really wooried about is the skim code what does it mean why did it trip and how do i fix it. car still runs drove it from work to home befor i noticed the check engine light. and could any of the other codes set each other off. i odered a iac it should be in tomarrow could that cause the tb one and the evap is more then likely my fill up tube. and when i rev the motor it sounds like it is sucking a lot of air and not much muffler sounds. thanks for the help for this is my only car to get to work in thanks again.

Is it possible he hooked into a wire that shouldn't have been tapped into?

he has installed them alot of times for his job and he followed the paper lay out and the only problem he had was finding the door trigger and hooking up the power doors the alarm is a piece of sh!t the sencer dosnt even go off when u bump the car. but thats another topic.

why would my skim code go off the key is the same one since i bought the car?

could the iac problem trigger the tb code?

Just to be sure IAC is the Idle Air Controller Correct. If so I've had to replace it on my 02 Explorer and when it went bad I could get the engine started, but it ran like crap.

yes. and YES YES YES it works again it was the IAC. now here is the new question is this a part that has to be broke in? reason i ask is when i start the car it starts right up but then drops to around 600rpm and takes a few seconds to go back to normal? also when im driving and i stop it will idle from 600 to 800 rpms is this normal? thanks for the help

The drop in idle when coming to a stop is pretty common on 2001 and 2002 Neons. I have to blip the throttle to get the idle to return to around 750.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Reset the ECU. Pull the fuel pump fuse, wait a few, and put it back in.

Also when resetting the PCM turn on the headlights, or push the brake pedal, if doing it by disconnecting the battery. I never used to do it, but there have been a few times recently that just unhooking the battery for a minute or two did not clear the CEL.

When doing this, my idle will usually be around 1000 rpm for a bit. A short drive usually gets it back to normal. It should be a little higher when the car is in motion, but drop once it stops moving. My idle is about 950 to 1000 rpm moving, and 750 to 800 stopped.

A good way to get it to relearn the parameters, or check how it is functioning, is to put it in 1st (MTX) and go up a hill, like a drive way that has an incline. Don't try on a road with traffic for obvious reasons. If all is well it will accelerate on its own up the hill, no pedal assist needed. :D
This may be the same for an ATX car, but I don't have one to check. I have done this in 2nd gear also, but it helps to have some forward motion already.

That's no good either. Our cars are set to closed loop idle at 800.

Mine rarely sees 800 at idle.

Of course I rarely worry about it either.
