My Dog Ate My Homework

Post by grambo » Wed Sep 28, 2005 5:37 pm

Gentlemen and Ladies. The friggin pooch didn't eat my homework but he ate my bumper. Hes a 90lb. American Bulldog puppy and he decided to use my bumper for a chew toy.
I'm kinda' old and from the pushrod-bondo generation. The only body work I've ever seen done on plastic parts was in SCC when they filled in the cutouts on a SRT-4's rear fascia. Looked like a bitch without experience!
This stupid dog chewed the driver's side- bottom corner at the wheel well. I can see daylight through it. He also chewed and scratched the headlamp assy. and various other areas of the bumper plastic.
Is this an absolute nightmare to fix, two part epoxy resins, tons of sanding, and such?
My insurance guy insists it was a shopping cart and that I should have it fixed professionally. (he's a gearhead like us! :) )
I've already had thoughts of patching the bumper in Bulldog hide.
If I can fix it myself and just pay for paint I could pocket some cash to spend at Modern Performance! :D

i would say it all depends on the damage... if its just crack, it shouldn't be too hard. i pieced my bike together with fiberglass on the inside and bondo on the outside of the cracks. i think the bondo is easier to sand and smooth down.

Sorry, I don't have much input but to laugh at the situation... That's a harsh dog! :)

...yeah my rottie's like that - but with him it's anything plastic...

...he ate my brothers front bumper cover from the body kit on his cavalier when it was delivered ... maybe not "ate" but definitely took a chunk out of it...

Wow I thought I was the only neon with body damage! Sucks to hear about that. During the Rita Evacuation I got hit a few times in the rear and the people sped off. No info or anything. Body shop time for me too.
