Rear back light housing, any gaskets?

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

Rear back light housing, any gaskets?

Post by NeoNeo2g » Tue Jul 14, 2009 2:01 pm

Hi.

Does 2g Neon have any gaskets in its rear back light housings?

I'm asking this because water gets in to the trunk through back light housings (not from the trunk lid, tested, also confirmed, that the leak is in the housings).

Any ideas, home-made silicone joints from tube?

If there is gaskets available, could you provide some information, thank you.

i assume your talking about the taillights??

yea, there pretty common for leaking, they do have gaskets, talk to excon, he just sealed them. im not sure for what, just look for his thread.

sealing is probabyl your best bet to stop leaking. (but not guaranteed)

The gaskets are $5 each at the dealership, go pick up some new ones :)

Go to a Dodge Parts counter, and tell them you need a set of rear taillight seals. Done. (I put almost a full tube of weatherstrip glue around them as well).

Tail light housing gaskets...

Post by NeoNeo2g » Wed Jul 15, 2009 10:56 am

... was exactly what I was referring to.

Thanks for the replies, was helpful.

I was amazed bacause when I checked the housings (I inspected them already by removing them earlier), there were no gaskets of anykind (????) Is there any, when they came out from the factory, or are the gaskets post-produced due to this design failure?

(Or did I just manage to buy a used timebomb which lacks this'n'that... )

yeah, you bought a used timebomb

they do come with gaskets from the factory but over time they shrink and wear away causing rogue leaks.

New gaskets didn't work for me. I had to put the gaskets on the tails, then use silicon sealant on the gaskets where they came in contact with the body, and press them into place. I still have a little bit of water in my trunk, but it's not a pond in the spare tirewell anymore.

lol caulk? Really? Go spend $8 a piece on new gaskets from the dealer. Then I sealed my third brake light with silicone. Also, if you have a sunroof, check to see the hoses are secured in the trunk to let the water drain out of the car instead of into the trunk.

If taillight gaskets don't completely fix the problem, check the trunk lid weatherstripping.

Taillight gaskets fixed my issue too...no need for any other sealant or caulking.
