Power Doors/Window

Post by strykr » Thu Jul 16, 2009 5:25 pm

K, so ive been reading up on here about looking to install power doors/windows into my 01 neon, all ive gotten is..
I looked into this and found out this - there is no wiring for it in the doors if you do not have it already.

You will need:

-door panels from car with power windows/locks/mirrors
-all switches
-door wiring harnesses

I think the plugs to plug into the main harness are there, so once you have the door wiring harnesses, you should be fine.

Please add/correct me/flame me as I tried this about 6 months ago and my memory is foggy now.
And kinda wondering if anyone is sure on what to do exactly! Because I really want to do this...

you would need a body wire harness out of a 01 that did come with power windows and doors. You might be okay with 00-02, but I'm not certain on this. There are a few other things that you will probably need, but I'm not certain. One of those would be the keyless remote system that is mounted under that dash. Others would be the switches for the door panels.

That is all that comes to mind so far.

Well this might not be what you are looking to do but I went to best buy and had power locks installed. It cost me 350 and that was labor, keyless entry, 4 actuators wiring horn honk ect.

Go to the junkyard and remove EVERYTHING that you can find in the doors + the panels, remove also every switch, plug, harness that you can find in the doors and from the doors to the fusebox.
In the end all these wires come together and it is nothing more than 12V and ground.
It is not easy to tell you what you need - so better take it all....

K well the wreckers was telling me they would give me each door for $50 including everything in it..

What harness going to the fuse box? Is that the body harness??

So other then that, id just need to run 12v and ground? Or...

Oooooh boy - for what do you wanna buy the whole doors??? Okay - that makes things easier and you can resell yours - but you will also need the harness that goes from the PLUG that connects the door with the body to the fusebox / the other door.
I am also not sure if the plug is the same for doors with and w/o power windows.
Definitely the harness for yours has less wires as that for the power-one.
I guess you should search for a plan where all the harnesses go (it should be in the service manual).
You would not really need the harnesses IF YOU COULD wire it up by your own skillz. But swapping the harnesses is the safe way.

With the 12V and ground i mean: AT THE BEGINNING of the harness it is just 12V and ground (if you cannot find a place at the fusebox to connect it) - but you will also need the harness BETWEEN the doors - the 12V goes from fusebox through the a pillar (the bottom end where you can see the harness when you open the door, you know what i mean...) to the driver side door -- through the switch -- back through the harness -- to the passenger door.

Tip:
- Ask the wreckers if you can have free entry to the wreck.
- Tell them your plan
- Remove the parts from the wreck and install them directly to your car
- You are finished if everything works fine
Thats the best way for noobs to upgrade the car - you can directly see the differences between the cars and so swap the right parts.

Please: Don't swap the sentry box (remote key box) under the dashboard!!

Haha ya I didn't plan on swapping the sentry key module lol.. Its just that power door thing. I'm not getting wat u mean.. Like where would it be? I'm getting doors off a black neon onto my silver (hope I can just keep the door n switch everything(easily)) I only have a this weekend to do it, and only a mastercraft mechanic set.. Lol

But the harness that connects the doors to the drivers dash fuse box, is that wat u mean? Cuz I dunno where I'd get that:s like ya itd be connected to the door wires, but I'm lost at that point cuz I bet theres a few harness connected to that:/

yes, that harness. if the doors do not have the same color: don't buy it. Your simple tools are okay.
Just remove EVERY HARNESS that you can find till it ends somehow in the fusebox or in the other door.
The harness from the driver doors will at least go to the fusebox, the other 3 doors, the sentry, the gauge and whatever more. It's better to have too much wires at the end...

Oh and please: You should use the board search. I can remember that we had the same question here and we also had a lot of pictures for the swap!

K so took ur advice went to the wreckers and started pulling the body wiring harness out so i could grab wat i needed and then the doors.. well after a few hrs of being there I went to the counter and asked how much the wiring harness would be cuz i needed it.. and she told me $100 on top of $50/each door!!

So if i cant find out EXACTLY wat i need I guess i wont be doing this:( I found the remote box (with a blue sticker) on top of the dash (which isnt in my car...), but i didnt get to pull the harness out, cuz i was having problems removing the harness from the dash with it in the car.. cuz I dont have toooo many tools with me.. I managed to find the remote in the car too.. so hopefully if i find out wat ill need tomorrow everything will be there still!

And I looked all over this forum on wat i needed and stuff.. and ppl werent too sure.. then on top of that.. the pictures of the swap that were on there were only of the dash. And ap2k(or however its spelt) didnt have all the pictures i needed to see wat ill need to get:(

100 for the harness? Are they crazy???
You could also live with just the doors - but then it is not that easy to keep things working - you need to knit your own harness.

Can you read wiring diagramma? So i could send you - but i only have it in german...
You have 4 wires going IN the drivers door:
TN - 12V ignition behind 30A overload switch
WT - 12V ignition behind 10A fuse (switch light)
BK/VT & BK/YL - ground
furthermore 2 wires going out - and straight to passengers door:
VT/WT & BR/WT - from the "passenger switch" to the passenger door
And so we have on the passenger side:
VT/WT & BR/WT from the drivers door
TN - 12V ignition behind 30A overload switch
WT - 12V ignition behind 10A fuse (switch light)
BK/VT & BK/YL - ground

Maybe the colors will help you to find the right harness.
But if you wanna knit:
Just find 12V behind a 30A ignition fuse, connect it to TN and WT (maybe from power mirror?)
Find ground: some black/?? wires (also inside the door).
Connect VT/WT & BR/WT from door to door...

Hmm - one more question: Do you have remote for the central looking?

remote for central looking? u mean locking? and it should be.. it looks like the one that came with the car, if thats wat ur talking about.. and yes i can read wiring schematics..

so other then getting the doors, remote module ontop of dash, and the remote key ill be good.. and just need to get wires to connect to the places they go? So no other devices other then the remote one or harnesses? just wiring them up??

If so ill be SOOOOOO happy!

Don't you have to pretty much rip the whole dash apart to do this mod?

Not worth my time...

So you have no remote? Okay thats complicated. I don't know if you can also install that.
But if - it is also eay, there are not THAT much wires from the module to the doors (in summary just 1 LG wire for the signal.
Download the SRT-4 service manual (it's in english!) and read page BW-60-1 and following. The wiring is the same in all model years!

K the remote is in the car at the wreckers.. and from wat ive gathered is i CAN do it.. its just the fact now that the doors are a diff colour.. i guess i could always go to crappy tire and get the paint match cans.. and just spray it on top of the black, but...

A. It would look black spotted unless I use ALOT of the cans.
& B. Id have to drive around a bit with black doors till i got it done..

the doors will be able to unlock manually as long as those "cables" are connected inside the door. You know, the ones that go to the lock and the door handle...
