What is your wax/polish of choice?

Post by TeckNeon » Tue Aug 03, 2004 11:31 am

It is coming up on the first time for me to wax my new black car. Myself and Project Draven are going to do our cars the same day to help each other out.

So, far I have been a fan of the Meguier's 3 step system...but since we both have new cars with new paint....we are going to go with Meguier's NXT Generation wash, wax and polish. I think they even make a Quick Detailer type of spray wax type thing by them too. But, it is PRICEY! $15 a bottle for the wax, $10 for the wash, $8 for the detailer and so on...instead of $5 a bottle for the regular stuff and $10 for Gold Class.

What are some other options? Price really isn't a worry, but if there is something better out there for less...why not go with it?

I have a black car and Draven's is a silver car. Any suggestions?

Yeah i got a suggestion. Got a black car...kiss your swirl-free ass goodbye! just kiddin' your setup sounds good to me, just remeber more than anything to take your time!

In 7 months iv'e tried TurtleWax Cleaner wax (discontinued), Dupont Teflon Wax, Zymol, Turtle Wax Color Cure, and plenty of detail sprays (Armorall, Minute Wax, EagleOne, Meguires, Mothers, etc).

I suggest using a strictly silicone based wax for a black car. It doesn't leave that annoying powder behind.

i think i have like 5 different coats of wax on my car right now. When my GF put her hand on my door she said it felt like a soft plastic from all the wax.

I use Eagle One wax as you dry. I was skeptical about it but tried it for the first time last week and It works great. I usually give it the Meguires 3 step at the beggining of the season and mid way through the season, but now I'll use the Eagle One every few washes after the first real wax of the season.[/list]

i switch between eagle one wax as you dry, turtle wax spray on wipe off, and meguires gold class. turtle wax is the easiest for me. eagle one is next, the meguires is a lengthier process and will leave more white residue if you don't get it all off.

I like Meguiar's products. I use their Gold Class wax and their detailer spray. Makes black look pretty. I don't really get too deep into paint detailing. Too much work for me.

Edited because I forgot how to spell!

I use the meguiars nxt gen wax and i love it. I have a metalic forest green neon and it really brings out a deep gloss look. I personally love the wax.

If I'm going into an important show I'll Zanio my whole car that takes like two days to do right.

If i'm just washing it and giving it a quick wax i'll use Meguires and some of that black colored liquid turtle wax to give my car an even darked look to it.

I used to work for a body shop, I learned from there that those one step waxes are no good. I buy all my compounds from an auto body shop, I like the 3M compounds. Take your time, this is one job where it pays to be anal. I can make a bad paint job look good with the right compounds and correct pads. I would tell you how to do it, but that would take me hours to type it up.

I used Eagle One Nanowax here only because we can't get the TechWax yet in Canada. That said, the Nanowax is the best wax I've used to date. Does my Black Ride justice. :D

Blue Coral

Post by RopeRat1 » Thu Jan 20, 2005 9:42 pm

Hiyas
I've had good luck with Blue Coral carnuba wax over the years.

I tried the 3-step Meguier's on my black '03 Dakota and it worked ok. I'm going to to the Meguier's on my black '04 R/T this spring to clean it up and then put on a coat of Blue Coral.

I haven't found the Eagle One Nano wax in N. Ky. (yet).
